What you'll learn in this jazz music class:

Improv Workshops programs bring together players of similar levels and goals, in an effort to develop as jazz improvisers while working on core repertoire in the jazz canon.

Improv workshops are a low-cost and worthwhile alternative to small ensembles, and they are appropriate for any player wanting to work more intently on improv specifics including vocabulary, understanding chord changes, and developing a stronger sense of jazz style.

Classes are all ensemble-based and repertoire-driven, with an emphasis placed on learning and immediately applying material. Core repertoire tends to cover “jam session” and “real book” standards and genres, and courses move far beyond simply passing out a lead sheet and “jamming” on tunes.

Your goal in these workshops should be the same as ours, to help take you to the next level while enjoying working on your jazz with other like-minded students. Workshops are leveled, with beginning-intermediate-advanced placements available.

Improv Workshop I covers jazz fundamentals.
Improv Workshop II covers more advanced concepts in jazz style and improvisation.

Refund Policy

WORKSHOP/CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY

All cancellations must be made in writing. Cancellations are never accepted over the phone.

If you cancel more than 31 business days before the first day of any semester, we will retain $30 of your tuition payment. You will receive a refund of any additional program tuition you have paid for that semester.
If you cancel 30 business days or less before the start of any semester, you will forfeit your entire program tuition for that semester. You will not get a refund. However, you may donate your spot as a scholarship to a financial need student.
There is no refund for no-shows or withdrawals after the class begins.
For transfers made 31 business days or more before the first day of a semester, students will be charged a transfer fee of $30.
No transfers are allowed less than 31 business days before the first day of a semester.

INTENSIVES CANCELLATION POLICY

The following cancellation policy applies to all Intensives programs. All cancellations must be made in writing. Cancellations are never accepted over the phone.

Cancellations received 61 business days or more before the first day of the first week of all Intensives will result in a tuition refund, less a 4.0% non-refundable deposit.
Cancellations less than 61 business days before the first day of the first week of the Intensives will result in no tuition refund.
No transfers are allowed less than 61 business days before the first day of the first week of the Intensives.
Transfer requests received 61 business days or more before the first day of the first week of the Intensives will be considered ($50 transfer fee applies).

We are not responsible for providing make-ups or issuing refunds, credits or transfers for days or entire workshops/courses/private lessons missed as a result of illness, emergencies or other events beyond the Academy’s control, including weather-related conditions (icy roads, etc.). Students will receive a tuition refund (minus a nominal 4% bank fee) only in the event that the Academy cancels the workshop, course, or private lesson.
