Fundamentals of Acting

This class is focused on developing our own individuality as actors, connecting with who we are and what our experiences have to offer to the characters.

The main goal is to learn how to create rich characters using our own personas without imposing a mask. It is about showing who we really are and offering that to our roles.

Early Stanislavski and pyscho-physical Grotowski exercises will be taught so that the student gets an integral understanding of the actor-self. We will work on the “triad” of emotion-body-mind and train each element to be readily available to us in a variety of given circumstances. Psycho-physical exercises will help us awaken the triad and connect each element to one another so that students allow internal and external stimuli to affect their actions by having truthful impulses.

We will also work on developing our intuition to know what our characters want, what they have to do in order to get it and the reasons that motivate them. This will give us a solid understanding of objectives, actions and motivations.

Text will be introduced by the end of the session so that we can apply what we learned to specific characters students want to explore.
