Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this still life class:

Oil paints, pastels, or watercolors – it’s your choice! We will work in the studio from florals, sketches, photos and artificial flowers. Emphasis on methodology, negative space, and drafting to further understand the configuration of the subject matter. Systematic application of hatching and crosshatching to define interacting patterns within your painting.

Pastels: Can you draw with charcoals? Then you can paint with soft pastels. The principle is the same. The only difference is the use of color for accomplishing remarkable works of fine and illustration art. No drying process involved, therefore speeding the production of images manyfold. Also ideal for sketching landscapes, portraits or still lifes leading to a finished oil painting. It is all connected. Break away from the myth of needing so many pastels. Not more than 25 soft pastels needed to cover the full range of colors. No need for expensive materials. Choosing the right paper color and tone for faster resolution of the painting. All of this and other techniques to help you develop into a more rounded fine, as well as illustration artist.

Watercolor: Students will work with transparent watercolors to develop planning, as well as drafting skills and the characteristic watercolor glow.

  • Please be mindful of the amount of space you and your equipment occupy. Economize your work space to accommodate fellow artists.
  • Please be polite to the models, and ask first before taking their pictures. The model may require a fee.
