Any photographer who has been to Long Beach knows that there is a lot to love, even more the case at sunset. The Queen Mary takes on a magical illumination at this hour and your DPA instructor will help you capture it with demonstrations and supervision on composition and camera setting expertise.
As for the light house and its reflection in the adjacent waters, try the Rule of Thirds in your composition versus dead center to choose which you prefer as a fit for your signature style of shooting. There is no wrong approach and such considerations, discussed with your co-participants and the instructor can also apply toward a myriad of choices with so many photo ops in the harbor and marina as well. It is hard not to get something good at sunset.
If you have a tripod that would be helpful but there are other ways to stabilize your camera for longer exposures as advised by your DPA instructor.
Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates). There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.
You will have fun in the three-hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.
