What you'll learn in this clay class:

This class is for the novice sculptor or more advanced artists who have never sculpted before. You can learn to sculpt in figurative or abstract, terracotta or plasteline, creating large or small projects, with or without an armature. You can sculpt from your imagination, drawings, or photo. We will guide you through the process, using either terracotta or plasteline clay.

In this four-hour studio workshop, you will work on your own project under the direction of our instructor. Our instructors have the ability to help any sculptor further develop their eye, intuition, and imagination.

Face Coverings are required and class size is limited to facilitate safe social distancing. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that can get dusty. Bring lunch or snack if desired. We have a refrigerator, microwave, and water dispenser.

Class price includes instruction, clay, board and use of studio tools. There is a nominal materials charge if an armature is required for your project.

Question from Dennis
What is the cost of materials?
Answer from Cindy F. Verified Educator
Hi Dennis. We have 3 kinds of clay - water-based terra-cotta ($12 for a 25 lb. bag), air-drying clay ($18 for 25 lb bag) and oil-based plasteline ($15 for a 2-pound block). You're welcome to bring your own clay as well. Some projects require armature components (pipes, flanges, clamps, wire, etc) and those are priced anywhere from $1 - $10 each. Most beginner projects do not require them. Kiln firing starts at $20 (small sculpture) and goes up according to size.
