Purpose: Meditation cultivates states of mind that are conducive to inner peace and well-being and eradicates negative states of mind. These sessions are suitable for beginners and experienced meditators.
Goal: Learn how to control and still the mind through meditation, deal with challenges in a postitive way, and develop an inner clarity of mind known as wisdom.
Format: Each class consists of one breathing and one guided meditation, commentary on the text, class discussion, and questions and answers.
1st series: The Path of Meditation (September 10- October 29 )
2nd Series: Essential Insights into the Enlightened Mind (November 5 - December 10)
Studying the texts, How to Transform Your Life and Mirror of Dharma, by the Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, in which he leads us to mirror-like wisdom.
The purpose of meditation is to cultivate states of mind that are conducive to inner peace and well-being, and to eradicate negative states of mind. These meditation classes provide you a detailed explanation of Buddhist meditation practice and philosophy.These teachings and meditation sessions are suitable for beginners and experienced meditators. In each class, we will explore a new topic from Buddha’s teachings, a specific aspect of meditation methods, and how to apply what you have learned to your daily life.
Format: Each class is 75 minutes long and is broken down into several sections. We begin with an introduction to the topic covered, then we still our minds with a guided 10-minute breathing meditation. This is followed by a 25-minute commentary on the actual meditation practice, then 10-minute guided meditation on the topic, and 15+ minutes of intra-class discussion, questions and answers. After class feel free to stay and visit and discuss with like-minded practitioners.
Universal Compassion, our main concern is to help and benefit others. In doing so we should learn how to remain humble and not boast about what we are doing. This very pure form of love, putting ourself at the service of others, is the high mind of an enlightened being, and the source of balance and stable contentment.
