What you'll learn in this sex & dating class:

This course will introduce students to the power dynamics of varying aspects of gender and sexuality that play out in society. We will discuss gender as a social construct; get deep into feminist theory; seek out when, where, and in what ways femininity and masculinity are represented in the current culture; distinguish between “masculinity” and “toxic masculinity”; question the good, bad, and the ugly of the commodified female body in porn and prostitution; and explore new avenues of thought that could provide exit from the confines of gender and sexuality as placed on us by society. The class will be highly engaging with heavy participation encouraged. By the end, students will be able to use phrases like “phallogocentrism” and “performativity” at the drop of a hat. But more than that, student will leave the class with tools to continue exploring the societal impacts on their own gender and sexuality.
