What you'll learn in this tv writing class:

In most TV 1 classes, you learn so much about the writing process: developing interesting characters that will help you tell the story, creating setting and tone, finding a turn or change in scenes that will lead to a propulsive story that moves.  But when the class is over, you find yourself in the same place every writer finds themselves: alone with a blank computer screen. Great ideas can be left unrealized, starting points hard to find – you just find yourself STUCK. Every lesson you thought you understood so well in class seems distant, unreachable.  It happens to everyone, even seasoned, professional writers.

In this class, Sam Ernst will help you develop a document that will work as a tool to get you out of those situations, that will “unstick” you.  It’s called a PILOT ROADMAP.  The Roadmap asks the questions that every writer needs to answer before they write the outline, before they write the draft.  And it’s something you take with you as you write your pilot, something you can use over and over to discover the layers of the great story you’re trying to write.  In this class, every writer will write their Roadmap, including great character profiles — and finally get to a propulsive outline that will take them through writing their draft.

By the end of the class, you’ll be on your way to writing that tight, layered pilot that’ll wow execs and Showrunners, hopefully scoring a sale or a seat in the writer’s room.

Note:
  • Bring Laptop if you have one, socks if it is a non-online class as we have a shoes off policy.
