As someone totally unfamiliar with carving or sculpting in any medium I needed more 1-on-1 explanations of many of the wax shaping tools and methods to execute my idea and Scott was very accommodating of this. I went a few times during studio hours for extra assistance and happily accepted his help in adding the sprues to my pieces for me so I could catch up and move onto the next step and he did an amazing job. My first time getting to cast was so fun! Scott's safety tips and guidance made me feel at ease. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone wanting to make their own pendants/rings/miniatures/etc out of metal.

Teacher is scattered, disorganized and a terrible communicator.

Scott is an excellent teacher! I gained a great understanding of the wax casting process and got hands-on experience every step of the way. I came out of the class with cast silver jewelry (which I love). Would recommend to all.

This casting class was great for my first experience of working with silver...I made an amazing piece that Scott carefully and thoughtfully guided me through. The class was full, but Scott is a professional metal smith and adeptly handled the students, the tools and materials for the final casting.

Three stars because I was able to, for the most part, achieve the goal I had for the course. Nothing against Scott as a person, but as a teacher he needs to figure out a better time management method. Every lesson was very rushed, casting day was very hectic which felt borderline unsafe. I don’t really feel I got my money’s worth considering how rushed and frantic everything was rather than a studio course with time to experiment and ask questions and learn the process.

This was a wonderful class. The instructor is great and helps as much as you need it. The other students were very interesting and encouraging, too. I'm looking forward to taking another one of Scott's classes. I'm hooked.

Scott is very down to earth with a great sense of humor. He is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. Though the class moves quickly, Scott provides one-to-one support and guidance. I thoroughly enjoyed the class, learning to use different equipments and honing my creativity. Well worth the price and I will definitely take this class again.

This class definitely taught me a lot and was full of good vibes and positivity. Scott has a way of making you comfortable and relaxed even after those incredibly tedius, drawn out days that we all have every so often. His teaching style is more like having a conversation with an old friend than typical A+B*X=C teaching that a lot of classes centre around. You will get all this information, though it feels more real rather than mechanical. I'm glad I took this class and am just as happy to have met and have Scott as a teacher.

This was a fantastic course! The wax casting process itself is fascinating. Scott was very knowledgeable and super patient the whole way. He guided us through lots of different techniques, materials and tools so we really had free reign to create anything we wanted.

Question from Mark C.
Through these four sessions could you conceivably walk away with a gaudy cocktail ring you made yourself?
Answer from Scott F. Verified Educator
Yes you can, However, if you plan on Stone setting, you would have to take the Prong setting class (1 night 3 hour class). On the last day of the casting class we finish and polish. There is not enough time to finish, teach stone setting and set your stone or stones. I hope I have answered your question. feel free to contact me so we can discuss your design and find the the best way to accomplish the results you desire.

Question from Christina
Hi, is the silver or gold needed to cast the piece, included? Do we get to take home the finished piece?
Answer from Scott F. Verified Educator
Hello, silver or gold is needed to cast the piece. The amount of metal is determined by the weight of the wax or waxes. Depending on the size of the piece, silver can cost as little as $10 (metal market prices fluctuates daily) you may source your own metal or place an order with the class. I encourage students to make as many pieces as possible. All of your work is yours to keep.
