Class Description
Description
What you'll learn in this still life class:
Taught by MFA Faculty member Zane York, using techniques derived from the Dutch tradition, students will assemble and paint a still life with a weekly emphasis on a different component. Daily lectures, demonstrations, videos, and group critiques will help guide students to understanding the foundations of not only still life, but representational oil painting in general. Particular focus will be on using composition and light to describe a variety of objects within the painting while creating a balance between compositional harmony and distinction between the individual elements.
Sessions:
- Week 1: The Imprimatura and the egg
- Week 2: Support Structure (background and cloth)
- Week 3: The Natural World (painting flora and fauna)
- Week 4: Solid as a Rock (bones, ceramic and stone)
- Week 5: Reflections of Our Surroundings (painting metal and glass)
- Week 6: Finishing Touches (glazes, velaturas, highlights and more!)
Remote Learning
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
Refund Policy
100% refund will be issued up to seven days after the first class. After this, no refund will be issued.
MAKE-UP POLICY
Unfortunately, we do not offer makeup classes. The instructor can tell them what they missed. Most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-to-one basis. During this time the instructor can work with the student who missed the previous week, talk with them and explain what to do.
