Our instructor was excellent! I learned so much about building an armature, clay tools, measuring out proportions of the face, and many helpful techniques for sculpting facial features.

Question from anonymous
In this class will we learn basic techniques of sculpting as well?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse Staff
Hi there! This class is open to students of all levels of experience. Basic sculpting techniques will be taught in this class, with a focus on portrait techniques. If you want a more general approach to basic techniques, we suggest the class, Sculpture: Principles & Basic Techniques.
Answer from anonymous
Will it be a good choice to enroll with no level of experience handling clay? And not a basic technique class for starters?
Answer from Alex V. Verified Educator
Hi, this is Alex from NYSA. You can enroll in this class at any level of experience with clay; our teaching method provides one on one instruction for all students throughout the class, which allows the instructor to provide basic techniques to beginners that will focus on portraiture. If you are more interested in the basic techniques of sculpting and not on portraiture, we recommend the class Sculpture: Principles & Basic Techniques with Ingo Appel.
Answer from anonymous
Thanks. This class does sounds like what I'm looking for. And all we will need is just the armature and tools correct?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse Staff
Yes, that's correct. The list on the class description is all you need to bring to the class. Hope this helps!

Question from Anonymous
Will this class help with sculpting figures such as smaller objects? Like would we build our clay making skills not just learning the bust?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse Staff
Hi there! If the student wishes to create sculptures other than a bust, perhaps our other course offerings would be better suited. For example, in the class "Sculpture: The Human Form", students work from the model but are encourage to create sculptures from their own perspectives: they can focus on the full figure, a leg, etc. And they can work in small or large scales.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse Staff
Additionally, if the student wants to work in clay, but does not want to focus on figurative sculpting, they can enroll in Sculpture: Principles & Basic Techniques if they are at a beginner to intermediate level, or join Sculpture: Unconventional Materials if they are experienced sculptors and wish to work in clay but want to experiment with a mixture of styles.

Question from Anonymous
Are we able to keep our finished work?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse Staff
Hello, there! Students keep their finished work at the end of the course. They also have the option of firing their finished work in our kiln once their work is completed for an additional fee of $30.00. If you plan to fire their piece at the end, you should advise their instructor during the first class. Hope this helps!
