Full Course Name: "The Evolution of a Neighborhood Tour of the East (Private Group)"
NYC neighborhoods are always evolving - it's part of what makes the city so fascinating. Manhattan's East Village is a perfect example of this evolution; from German, Irish immigrant communities, to wealthy landowners, to trend-setting hipsters. Experience the diversity in history, culture, and of course cuisine!
From Peter Stuveysant’s “bouwerie” (meaning“farm” in Dutch), to the Lower East Side immigrants and the “Hippie” 60s and 70s to Alphabet City’s renowned restaurants -- the East Village has undergone tremendous changes over the decades.
As we wend our way through this ever-changing enclave you will experience many “offbeat” surprises- “the healthiest block in NYC”, “little Japan”, home of the Yiddish theatre that later was known for the famous punk rock scene, neighborhood gardens, the memorial to the Slocum Disaster and more.
Of course we will taste along the way. Tastes will include traditional fare and the newest trends as we sample savory treats, international fare and farm fresh goods.
Give yourself (or someone else) the gift of a “real” NY experience with a SusanSez NYC Walkabout. Learn the history, eat the food, take a walk and have a great day!
So bring your appetite and your walking shoes and join SusanSez NYC Walkabouts for a ”real” NY experience.
