What you'll learn in this cinematography class:

In this Digital Cinematography, see the big picture of camera work and what you can do as a DP to best achieve the aesthetic goals of your project. Using the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro, experiment with framing and composition, lenses and depth of field, and advanced manual image control techniques. What works best with the conditions and style you wish to shoot in?

This is a Production workshop at the Extensions level.

Topics include:
  • Focus
  • Depth of Field
  • Composition Basics
  • Slow Motion and Variable Frame Rates
  • Shot Type and Selection
  • Coverage
  • Color Temperature and White Balance
  • Using an External Monitor
  • Language of Cinema
  • Set Etiquette

Camera Fundamentals and Lighting Fundamentals or equivalent experience is required. Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro highly recommended.


All you need to bring is yourself! We provide all equipment and are committed to a 2:1 student to camera ratio. Personal equipment is not permitted.

We understand that emergencies and last minute changes happen. Note that we are also serving many people and want to ensure fairness and keep prices low.

Student Cancellation Details:
If you register for a workshop and are unable to attend, we can offer the following compensation:

If your cancellation is confirmed by DCTV:
* at least 5 full business days prior to workshopʼs start date - You can receive 
Full Refund
* at least 2 full business days prior to workshopʼs start date - Full Credit (valid for 3 months) or a 50% Refund
* less than 2 business days prior to workshopʼs start date - No compensation
No compensation, neither Refund nor Credit is available for cancellations less than 2 full business days prior to a workshopʼs start time or for non-attendance. For example, if you cancel your registration for a workshop that starts at 6:30pm on Monday, we must confirm your cancellation no later than 6:30pm the Thursday before. There are absolutely no make-ups allowed for any missed session(s) of a workshop. It is not possible for students to make up a missed session of their Workshop by attending an equivalent session on another day. There are no refunds for missed sessions.

Informative but very heavy on technical aspects and less on artistic side. Good info to know, but wished we had more opportunity to delve into the creative aspects of cinematography.

The instructor (Leah) seemed like a nice person, but should not be a teacher. It was truly a waste of money. I didn’t even attend the last class because the first two were so meandering and purposeless. I think it’d be smart if DCTV would vet their instructors a bit more if they’re going to charge that kind of money. Thanks!
