What you'll learn in this tv writing class:

Turn your idea for an original TV series into a solid, working premise with "legs" to sustain itself over multiple seasons. Be guided step-by-step through the process of developing strong 'story engines', building out the 'world' of your show, story construction and the ofter overlooked art of outlining.

Learn how to:
  • Create compelling, multi-dimensional characters that we'll want to watch season after season.
  • Construct engaging plots and artfully weave them together.
  • Make the logic and motivations in your stories airtight.
  • Structure scenes to deliver their maximum dramatic/comedic punch.
  • Write dialogue that crackles with authenticity and avoids cliche.
In this workshop, you will write a good chuch (or all*) of your script. You will also receive feedback on your work every week from a professional TV writer and 2-3 times from the entire group. Learn to master the principles of dramatic/comedic structure so that you'll be able to develop your future ideas into full-fledged TV shows and develop strategies for getting into "the business".

*While Pilot I classes emphasize developing the world of your shown and it's structure, it is possible for an especially motivated student to complete a draft of their script over the course.

Dylan is such a great teacher! He's got a lot of enthusiasm in class and gives lots of great information and feedback. It's a great class to take if you want to start your first pilot script or rework a current one you want to finish. Class is weekly and very structured and homework reading other pilots and watching them. A must if you want to write your first pilot!
