Excellent class. Instructor was organized and made the class fun. Learned many skills that could be further developed.

Joey was a great instructor. He has a great way of giving us puzzles to build on the principles we've learned to do more complex things. He's attentive, supportive and upbeat.
Some of the machines are better than others, but none seemed too bad. The materials are free. Be sure to look for nice thread/yarn that is a proper thickness and isn't too old. Or better yet, bring your own fibers.
What's super nice, is that you get some studio time access, outside of class, for a period of time after the class. This is helpful to get more familiar with the machines and process. After the free access ends, you can buy more time.
I'm looking forward to advanced machine knitting. I can already sense that I wish that session was a 2-day intensive rather than 1.

This course taught me the basics of prepping a sewing machine, and high level teachings on how to cut fabrics and patterns, and how to sew various types of seams. I think 4 classes is not enough to really internalize all new concepts but I think I've got the sewing machine basics down, which is really what I went for!

It was a nice experience I will definitely do it again. I'm going to register for the next class; Wleaving 101.

Joey was amazing!! So knowledgeable and personable. We all had a ton of fun and left with all we needed to know to recreate and experiment on our own. I highly suggest this or any class at the textile arts center !!

LuvLuv Joey for his patience

It was listed as intermediate on the website so I was expecting to get more out of it. You don't even cut out your own leather or work with a pattern. It was way too basic of a class to warrant the cost.

Fun, simple class. Finished product and learned, thank you!

The instructor was SO nice and funny - loved him. The class was okay, I enjoyed it but it was a bit confusing and a lot of work to fit into the relatively short timeframe. I wish it were a longer class so we could get instructions in a more organized manner and take our time to do better quality work - a lot of my stitching ended up messy from rushing. It also would have been nice if the resulting bag was a bit better looking. That said, I had fun and learned a lot. I'd recommend the class, with slight reservations.

Wonderful class! Joey was a fantastic and knowledgable teacher, and also very patient and helpful. The facilities were great and I walked away with a sweet pair of leggings and the confidence to sew knits.

It was simple, clear and engaging, Joey made it fun. I'm hooked and want to buy my own loom! The possibilities are endless and that was only one class.

This class was such a great help to me. Joey is a amazing teacher, he made sewing very easy to learn so I was able to grasp the concepts. He worked with everyone's pace, which is always important. I plan on taking more classes at the Textile Art Center in the near future for sure. I hope that some classes that are offered on Saturdays will also be available during the weekend.

The only change I would make to this class is to line the bag. The bag is beautiful and practical. I love the shoulder strap.

I was nervous going in since I hadn't used a sewing machine in 5yrs., once I arrived the at ease environment and staff helped my anxiety go away.. The class was fun and Steve the teacher was the best.. Fun, energetic, helpful and honest.. I would recommend this class to all looking for something new, all looking to add skills to their repertoire , and/or all looking for something fun to do.. I will keep my eyes open for other classes they may have.. Thank you BCC (Brooklyn Craft Company).

Enjoyable class; a bit short on time for
Instruction and completion but one hour longer than stated, did leave with a great leather tote bag! Facility was perfect!

Really liked using the knitting machine and Joey's instruction was great. Wish we had learned a little more in the 4 weeks for the amount of money it cost, but I'm happy with class as an intro.

Great to work with leather first time, and learn how to do so. The place is very nice, spacious and the instructor was very pleasant.
Even though it was clear at registration that this is for people with some basic knowledge of working a sawing machine, there where some who have never touched one so that was a bit annoying - took much of the instructor's attention.
I would extend the course an hour and add a lining to the bag. It's a bit rough as it is now.

Wow! What a delightful loft -- great space for a class. I arrived early and Brett was setting up. I'm sure I was too chatty but she was kind and friendly right from the start. The teacher, Joey, came in shortly after. Everything was laid out to make the process seem smooth -- certainly smoother than at my house!! Joey gave us an overview and then we went to work -- on machines that felt like butter and hummed like birds. Honestly! Who knew not all sewing machines yell at you when you are working! Three hours later we were sporting really professional looking leather totes… I guess my only disappointment came from my expectation that the stitching would look like Coach instead of well, kinda homemade. The Bernina's are great machines, but not INDUSTRIAL machines -- but who cares? Everybody I meet says -- Wow! I can't believe you Made that bag!! Worth the prices of admission! A great morning. I will be back. (By the way, in case you're feeling shy, there was a young woman in the class who had NEVER used a machine -- she made a bag for heaven's sake!!!!!) Nan Dillon

This was more fun than I've had in forever -- beautiful colored leathers to mix and match… a delightful and inspired teacher, Joey, the motherly Brett and fabulous women from all over the area. We all walked away with soft and truly beautiful leather bags that looked like they were sewn by professionals. Of course we were spoiled by working on the fabulous Bernina machine which I now can only find for $1200 plus :( I am sure we would have had a much different experience if we were all working on my machine from home, fondly known as "The Bastard". CourseHorse, I will be back for more. Thanks for a wonderful Sunday in Brooklyn! Nan Dillon

Sew a leather tote was so much fun, I immediately signed up for sew a zipper leather clutch. Now I have two great bags that I can proudly say "I made this:)". Joey Casey was great. The studio is super cute and they had great equipment to work with.

Awesome time! They were able to give me the personal hands on help I needed.

I loved this class! Very well-structured - love the colour palettes of materials used and the fun, supportive atmosphere!
