Catherine McNeur, author of Taming Manhattan: Environmental Battles in the Antebellum City (Harvard, 2014), is Assistant Professor of Environmental History and Public History at Portland State University. Her book has won the American Society of Environmental Historian’s George Perkins Marsh Prize, the New York Society Library’s Hornblower Award, and the Victorian Society of America Metropolitan Chapter Book Award.
