Edison Osorio Zapata

Teaches at Brooklyn Glass

Edison Osorio Zapata was born in Venezuela to Colombian migrants, but spent most of his youth in Australia where he trained in the culinary arts. This skill took him to Japan, where he opened a restaurant in Tokyo. In Japan, he developed an interest in art and pottery, which brought him back to Australia to study at the Canberra School of Arts with a major in glass. In 2004, he received a Japanese Government scholarship and completed his MFA at Tama Art University, Tokyo in 2007. Edison received a Monbukagakusho scholarship from the Japanese government and completed an MFA at Tama Art University in Tokyo 2007, where he also taught. After graduating he held a research / teaching position at Nagoya Art University. He has received scholarships from the Pilchuck Glass School, Seattle, and has attended the Haystack School of Crafts, Maine. In 2008 he completed a fellowship at WheatonArts, New Jersey, and was artist in residence at Urbanglass, Brooklyn.
