Marie Viljoen

Teaches at New York Botanical Garden

Marie Viljoen is an urban gardener and cook who treats her small terrace as an outdoor pantry. She has produced full sun crops from potatoes to figs on a Brooklyn rooftop and now farms edibles from Malabar spinach to blueberries in near-shade on a Harlem terrace. If you can grow it here, she says, you can grow it anywhere. Marie has taught edible gardening and foraging classes at the BBG and leads private botanical walks that focus on wild edibles.
