Adam Kraar

Teaches at Primary Stages ESPA

Adam Kraar is a veteran of the national new play development scene, whose recent work includes ALTERNATING CURRENTS (The Working Theatre), WILD TERRAIN (Ensemble Studio Theatre Marathon of One-Act Plays), EMPIRE OF THE TREES (NY Innovative Theatre Awards nominee, Outstanding New Script), NEW WORLD RHAPSODY (Manhattan Theatre Club commission), and FREEDOM HIGH (Queens Theatre in the Park). 

His work has been produced and/or developed by N.Y. Stage & Film, Public Theatre, The New Group, Bloomington Playwrights Project, Theatre for the New City, and many others. His plays appear in six BEST AMERICAN SHORT PLAYS anthologies, and are also published by Dramatic Publishing and Smith & Kraus.  

His plays have been workshopped at The Playwrights’ Center (where he was a Core Member and remains an Affiliated Writer), Primary Stages, The Lark (as a member of the Playwrights’ Workshop), Manhattan Theatre Club (as an Emerging Playwright Fellow), and many other theatres in New York and across the country. A three-time finalist for the National Playwrights’ Conference, Adam has also served as a dramaturg for Wordbridge Playwrights Lab at CenterStage Baltimore, taught playwriting at the University of Rochester and Hampshire College, and served as a mentor for the New School graduate playwriting program. 

Adam grew up in India, Thailand, Singapore and the US, and earned an MFA at Columbia University.
