Professor Gabberty is an ICT (Information and Communication Technology) practitioner with 30+ years’ experience in academia and industry. Prior to his current position as Professor of Information Systems at the Seidenberg School of Computer Science & Information Systems, he helped build large-scale systems in the banking & brokerage industry in New York City’s financial community. Starting as a mainframe programmer and working up the ranks through MIS Director with overall general management responsibilities for a NYC-based systems integrator, Dr. Gabberty provides practical insight into many IT issues by blending real-world experience with academic rigor.
His professional specialties include strategic business systems planning, information security, and information systems security policy, planning and development. Dr. Gabberty is an independent computer security consultant who maintains ties with law enforcement agencies to combat the misuse of information technology and protect IP assets in the private, public sector and government sector; he is also President of Columbia Consultants, Inc. a technology consultancy that assists firms in preventing cyber-based intrusions into corporate networks as well as frequent speaking engagements on related cyber security topics. He has served as an Expert Witness at the state and federal levels.
An avid author of many IT siness publications, Dr. Gabberty has been featured in BusinessWeek, The Economist, and Wired magazines, as well as numerous other academic and professional journals such as the Multinational Business Review and Journal of Economics & Business Research.
