Ever fantasized about working in a Hollywood studio writer’s room or wondered what it would be like to craft the next big HBO series with your fellow scribes? Or maybe you’ve just gotten that first staffing gig and want to set yourself up for success. In this one-day Online TV Writer’s Room Workshop, you’ll learn about room hierarchy and etiquette, how showrunners work, the creative games staff writers play & how they squeeze the best material out of each other to produce the most compelling scripts possible on tight deadlines.
You’ll also learn the secrets that will help you succeed in the room once you get that first job and avoid rookie career-ending mistakes. In a special mock writer’s room supervised by a current showrunner, you’ll practice beating out an episode, pitching personal stories for the storyline, and finding comic and dramatic opportunities. By the end of the class you’ll know what it means to be “good in the room” and have some solid pitching skills to boot!
