Class Description

Description

This in-depth workshop explores the techniques and processes involved in metal coating and other distinctive finishing effects that are readily achievable on metal surfaces or non-metallic materials. The class begins by casting resin objects and then transforming them into striking metal-looking artworks. Instruction covers the detailed steps of the metal coating process along with professional tips and tricks that create an authentic metal appearance and effects.

Explore comprehensive aspects of patination through engaging lectures and hands-on demonstrations focusing on applying finishing touches to three-dimensional sculptural works. This course highlights Sculpt Nouveau's professional metal coating system and showcases the remarkable range of finishes possible through skilled application. The session covers thorough preparation techniques for nearly any material type, including plaster, wood, metals, and resins, ensuring quality results regardless of substrate.

Participants will observe live demonstrations of advanced texturing techniques and proper metal coat application methods. Significant time focuses on adding various patinas to metal coatings, including chemical patination, pigment patination, color wash effects, incorporating metal leaf accents, and blending powder pigments to create diverse and sophisticated finishes. The workshop concludes with a discussion of appropriate sealant products and practical guidance for mounting and professional presentation of finished work.

Questions and comments about participants' individual projects are actively encouraged and will be addressed during the final portion of the seminar, as this feedback and discussion are considered a valuable component of the learning experience.

Please wear appropriate work clothes; materials and processes used in this workshop can become messy!
