Want to step up your embroidery skills and impress your design-y friends? Look no further and join this satin stitch-based embroidery workshop. You’ll learn how to paint with thread to create colorful layouts and negative space embroideries with lots of texture. Become part of the cool kids with these simple but effective skills! Reach new levels and let your embroidery pop, adding the perfect new decoration to your or your loved ones home!
In this CraftJam you will learn:
- Choosing the right thread count/ply for satin stitch.
- Design and composition methods for negative space.
- Elements of color theory.
- Understand the advantage of texture in embroidery.
- How combining a colorful layout with negative space and lots of texture will result in a beautiful piece of art.
We suggest having a basic understanding of embroidery methods and stitches before taking this class (e.g. prepping your hoop, threading your needle, essential embroidery stitches, such as the running stitch, back stitch). This makes a great companion class to our Embroidery Wall Art CraftJams and WebJams.
Suggested supplies:
- Embroidery needle
- Embroidery floss
- Embroidery hoop
- Woven fabric (including an extra piece of scrap fabric to practice stitches on first)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- PDF download of sample designs (the file will be attached to your ticket email)
Neither is an option for you? Look around your home for your true DIY-ad-hoc-emergency-embroidery-kit. Maybe you have a sewing kit from your last hotel stay? Search for woven fabric that can be cut up! You can start with a needle, thread, and pretty much any piece of (woven) fabric. These might not be the ideal supplies, but enough to participate to get those creative juices flowing.
And this is how a WebJam works:
After you purchase your ticket, you will receive an email with a custom URL link to join. You will be able to add the event to your calendar. Reminder emails will be sent 2 hour and 45 minutes prior to the start. Make sure to login 10 minutes before the WebJam starts to avoid technical difficulties that may delay you.
While using Zoom we strongly recommend video participation. Unlike traditional webinars, we’re keeping our classes small and intimate. CraftJam was founded to foster community amongst its participants and part of this is seeing and interacting with each other as well as the option to receive feedback and support for your projects from your JamMaster.
School Notes:
We are BYOB friendly! Crafting is paired best with your favorite drink of choice! But, you must be 21 or over. Younger? Just have a mocktail. No one will notice ;)
