Class Description

Description

Master the fundamentals of Italian wine regions and wine classification through this comprehensive, intensive course. From the dramatic peaks of the northern Alps, along the distinctive Apennine spine, to the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in the south, Italy represents one of the world's most complex and multifaceted wine regions. Decipher and understand the key distinctions in this intensive seminar designed for wine professionals and serious enthusiasts alike.

The study of Italian wine regions and wine categories presents considerable complexity and challenge for wine students. With wine production occurring throughout 20 distinct regions, featuring hundreds of individual grape varieties developed over centuries of viticulture, temperature ranges spanning Alpine to Mediterranean zones, and diverse geological and soil conditions that vary dramatically between regions, mastering Italian wine requires sustained focus and comprehensive study.

For wine professionals working toward Certified Sommelier designations and wine careers, a comprehensive understanding of Italian wine is non-negotiable and absolutely essential. This depth of knowledge allows professionals to understand intricacies and nuances, evaluate quality standards accurately and confidently, and discuss Italy's wine characteristics comprehensively with clients and peers. Our course examines the principal regions, including Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and other significant wine-producing territories across the country.
