FileMaker Pro 13 Session 1

This half-day session introduces you to the FileMaker platform, shows you how to navigate an existing database, move between records, add, edit and delete records and switch between layouts and modes. You will find records that meet specific criteria, including matching text, blanks, number and date ranges and duplicate records. You will create complex finds that use multiple request forms and that omit records, and learn to constrain and extend the existing found set of records and sort records. Finally, you will import external data to populate or create a new table.

Viewing and Working with Data

• Describe the function of a layout
• Know when to use the four modes within layouts
• Compare and contrast the three layout views
• Describe two methods to navigate between records
• Create a new record
• Add, modify, save and delete data

Finding and Sorting Records

• Perform complex finds
• Extend and constrain found sets
• Make use of operators in your search requests
• Sort records

Importing Data

• Identify file formats that can be imported
• Convert a file into a FileMaker solution
• Convert an Excel workbook into a FileMaker file

Note: This class requires only basic computing skills, such as using a mouse and opening and closing windows. No prior FileMaker Pro or database experience is required.
