Reviews for Acting Classes in Los Angeles

Acting Classes in Los Angeles are rated 4.6 stars based on 288 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Great class!!! I want to take it again
  • The teacher was awsome. I felt that some portals just opened in my life and I am very interested to do new classes.
  • The teacher was very engaging and provided excitement for the opportunity to move into the sector.
  • I had a great time enrolling in the intro to voice-over class. It's a great way to get introduced to voice acting and the class overall was an inexpensive way to get a feel of voice acting.
  • I really enjoyed the class.
  • As anticipated, I thoroughly enjoyed the class. Eric Smies was knowledgeable, as well as entertaining. I left the class with a greater understanding of how to begin and maintain a hobby, career in the VA industry. I'm retired. I'll decide my next move, once I have been critiqued.
  • Class was cancelled 48hrs prior to start date but the providers have been in contact to either reschedule or receive a refund
  • Great instructor, great material, took lots of notes and interactive as well. Everyone gets a chance to go on stage with speak on the mic.
  • Jonathan is a gem. Incredibly passionate teacher who really breaks down what you need to know to have success in comedy. I never leave reviews on these sites but people need to know how good this class/teacher is. Already told all my friends so you folks might as well know too
  • I loved the class! Paul did a phenomenal job and I learned a lot. I left feeling like I got more than what I paid for. Definitely coming back to take more classes.
  • I was so nervous going into this class as a complete novice. Within minutes, I felt at home. Both the instructor (especially the instructor) and the other classmates were warm, non-judgmental, and open. I felt energized as a person and informed as a performer. Needless to say, I have already signed up for the same class next week! 10 stars if I could! Thank you!
  • It was great! Loved the feedback portion.
  • The instructor was informative and engaging. He offered great resources and feedback.
  • This class provides much more insight about on-camera acting, than I expected. Great price! Amazing value!
  • It was so much better than expected! Awesome class!
  • It was a great class. However I couldn't attend the last few sessions because of the coronavirus outbreak.
  • Introduction to Voice-Over - Explore the Business

I believe the information about Voice Overs and the tips provided were great! I enjoyed the read-aloud portion immensely. I also appreciated the critiques and tips of voice inflections were so helpful. The tidbits about creating your own studio was also great; the Union information good; the overall information about the Voice Over jobs out there was a real eye opener-the jobs for Voice Overs is a booming industry. Our trainer was fun, animated and helped the people in class to loosen up, relax and the expression of our voices could create! Thank you so much!
  • I couldn’t make it due to work. I’m sure the class was great.
  • Really enjoyed the experience! Our instructor John was excellent and provided an informative and entertaining session.
  • Great presentation by John, informative and very helpful. Terrific class!
  • Really fun course! 100% worth the money!
  • So interesting and enlightening. An eye opening 3-hr experience!
  • Pretty cool - worth it.
  • Loved it johns a very good teacher!!!
  • I was thrilled to find this class. It’s been a wonderful experience.
  • Joanie Coyote was wonderful and insightful. She gave me some of the best and most useful notes I've ever received from a director or teacher. She never put me down and never poked fun of any of us. She's a pro and you can feel it when she talks to you. She empathizes with how vulnerable we are up there and made us all feel like we really could/can do this seemingly impossible task of "getting up and doing 5 minutes". Oh, and she taught me how to write a joke.... And a whole bunch of other stuff you need to know before you step on that stage. I loved the class and I think Ms. Coyote is exceptional.
  • Truly enjoyed the class/ instructor and learned a lot!
  • Loved it!!
  • Excellent overview of the business of being a voiceover artist. From what it is to how to break into it and learning what companies are looking for in voiceover talent, the class provides solid information for anyone who is curious about the field and also advises students on the next steps they should take if they’re interested in pursuing a career as a voiceover artist.
  • This was the perfect introduction to voice over for me. John, the instructor, made the class stress-free for a beginner.
  • The class was great and interactive. Noel was a knowledgeable and encouraging instructor. She gave great direction and made me feel very comfortable even though I was way out of my comfort zone, I did not leave feeling terrible about. I actually left feeling like I had fun doing something new.
  • I really enjoyed it I got a lot out of it. It was a great experience plus it was fun.
  • I really appreciated the honest feedback from the instructor. He wasn’t there trying to sell us anything. He genuinely just wanted to inform us of what the industry is like, and how it’s changed recently, to prepare us for when we moved forward with our careers.
  • Adam is very funny and a encouraging teacher. He helps you find your inner comic with on stage exercises. The showcase is a really great opportunity to get to perform at the Comedy Store in a supportive atmosphere.
  • Very supportive environment which is crucial when you’re putting yourself out there for stand up.
  • Greg gives a great class, I love the student engagement. My only feedback would be to have the students participate in more (improv) exercises that have the students say/ ramble even more with less editing. This way, they can play with having even more flow, this would heighten the exercises that he administers in class.
  • This was an amazing introduction into the voice acting world. It started with a brief overview of voice acting and then entered into a varying array of the possibilities that you could choose to work with. From commercials to animation and everything in between. Hearing both your own contributions and that of the others in the class gives you an idea of what the business could become for you. The instructor was quite knowledgeable and was able to coach and give direction to each person in a way that worked best for them. The in booth experience was enlightening as well. It showed what to expect and revealed the intricacies required by both the actor and the technician to make the entire process work. If you are thinking about voice acting and want a little more information, I would wholeheartedly recommend this course.
  • Great Calls Got us on the stage immediately great coaching
  • Noel Romano is an excellent teacher of voice-over techniques and a real working professional. The class was most helpful.
  • Very informative and what I hoped for when I signed up for the class.
  • The instructional portion was very informative, and gave a realistic look at the industry. Actual recording booth time with a director and engineer was a lot of fun, and everyone in the class was supportive of each other. Overall a great experience.
  • It's more fun than Vegas!!
  • Excellent instructor who was full of good sound advise. Eric had a plethora of information, education, and work experience in voice over work. We did two recorded reading's in class. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning the basics and wants to learn.
  • Dallas is amazing with the kids, patient, funny, caring, gives thoughtful advice and instruction, My wife and I really enjoy and recommend these classes, Our boys are loving them.
  • I really appreciate the introduction to Voice Over. I felt we had a nice size class ( and my peers were enthusiastic ). Noelle and Jenna were gracious with us, and Noelle provided much explanation of what is expected, needed, and desired in voice over talents. This seemed to me to be an ideal way to experience what work in the field might be like. I have a specialized interest in certain parts of the field which include audio books, doing voice for rpg games, and reviving the old radio serial type format. So although those were not the focus of the presentation, Noelle and my classmates provided some resources to investigate further ! The only part I can't really comment on is the evaluation of my potential in the field - as that conversation hasn't yet occurred.
  • On-Camera Audition Class

Nina was an excellent instructor! She was very knowledgable and helped me understand how to craft effective on-camera auditions and self tapes.
  • Valuable information learned in only two short hours. Good for actors with a theatre background.
  • Noel was awesome
  • This class was an informative, no-BS introduction to the world of voice over acting. Noelle was a great instructor, providing honest feedback while thoughtfully assessing each student's strengths and challenges. She gave helpful prompts for tackling reads and explained the importance of knowing your vocal style/genre so as to waste as little time possible and increase your chances of advancing and booking gigs in this industry. Everything from technique and marketing, to technology and studio etiquette were touched on, to give us a solid foundation so we can properly decide whether or not to pursue VO.
  • I was happy with the class. I think I need to improve my listening skills. Thank you.

Discover the Best Acting Classes in Los Angeles

Hollywood, movies, commercials, and celebrities are words that come to mind when considering the acting world, so acting and Los Angeles go hand in hand. There are many parts to consider if you are thinking about entering the world of acting. Yes, you could be in movies, but you could also act in plays or television. The acting world has so many levels that it is likely something for everyone.

Why You Should Learn Acting in Los Angeles

Learning how to act in Los Angeles might feel like “everyone is doing it, ” but there are some benefits to learning this new skill. Even if you are not looking for a career in acting, many of the classes offered can help boost your confidence and help with a fear of public speaking. The skill developed in acting classes can help you feel silly, confident, and think on your feet, which can shift to any field that requires engaging with others. Acting could also be a great hobby that helps break up your traditional day. For example, taking an improv or voiceover class can break up someone’s typical 9-5-day, particularly if you have limited engagement with others. Speaking of engaging with others, learning acting in Los Angeles can give you a way into a new community. The acting community in LA could be locals or people from all over with varying interests. Either way, you will likely meet someone new and perhaps someone with similar interests as you outside of acting.

In-Person Acting Classes in Los Angeles

Various schools offer numerous options for in-person acting classes in Los Angeles. The Actors Circle in Culver City provides film and television workshops to artists of all ages. In addition, they offer scene study, improv, cold reading, and audition techniques. All of these areas are important to an up-and-coming actor. For example, their Acting for Adults classis a cold reading class that offers scene study, cold reading, interview techniques, and character development. The course is $54 and averages about ten students. It’s designed to develop and foster confidence, focus, self-awareness, and creativity and build the necessary tools to be a competent actor. Students and instructors use terms you can expect to hear on film sets to help develop the on-set vocabulary with actors, another skill that will help the industry. Students can positively encourage each other’s performances, but no critiques are allowed.

The Actors Circle also offers Teens Acting (12-16 yrs old)at their Westside location. The class has similar setups to the Acting for Adults class offering teens scene study, cold reading, interview techniques, improvisation, and character development. The goal of the course, similar to all of the classes offered at the Actors Circle, is to expose actors to many different ways to get to the same place within their emotional subtext. For $48, teens can expect to be more confident, focused, and self-aware and to leave with the stamina necessary while filming or taping. You also get the same experience from the Kids Acting (5-11 yrs old) course offered here. This course provides the same structure as the other two. Still, it focuses on the younger actors, particularly with character development, so that younger actors are recognized for how to act as opposed to being cast as the “typical kid.” These offerings are great examples of how the Actors Circle in Culver City has something for everyone.

Voiceovers are also a technique and form of acting that many would want to learn. Numerous schools offer courses to help master this skill. Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, provides a Voiceovers—Now is Your Time class. This class shows you how to take command of your career as a voiceover actor, empowering you with the skills to use your voice for commercials, films, and videos. It’s a 2-hour class for $35 that can significantly improve your skills.

Acting Class Now, located in Koreatown, Los Angeles, offers a variety of classes to help teach actors to trust their instincts and impulses using their experience, imagination, research, and intelligence. The IK Connection Method: Scene Study class is split into four sessions for $180. As a scene study class, students can expect lots of physical work. It offers mindfulness techniques from guided grounding or meditation at the beginning of each session to stretching and breathing together and using your entire body to be engaged in the work. In addition, students can feed off each other’s energy and learn the techniques of method acting. The IK Connection Method: Moment 2 Moment class allows students to take their method acting to the next step by being present in their emotions. Moment 2 Moment is a 3-hour class that’s good for actors or just life skills, that helps students get present in behavior, word, and action with a partner to help them connect with others.

Virtual Acting Classes

Many people assume acting classes can only be done in-person, but that’s not true. Online cases do work a lot differently than in-person classes, however. Online classes offer you the flexibility of learning from anywhere. You can take a class from home, on your lunch break, even while on vacation. Additionally, taking online classes cuts out your commute. No more getting stuck in traffic, finding parking, or riding your bike in the rain. Online acting classes are a great way to learn, but some disadvantages exist. If you take a virtual acting class, you will likely have to supply your materials. Also, some might have difficulty connecting in more emotion-based acting classes over Zoom, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other great options for virtual acting classes

For example, Edge Studio Voice Over offers numerous online courses. The Don’t Embarrass Yourself class is an online option for casual learners, aspiring professionals, and working professionals looking to start thinking like a voice actor to ensure you start to book the jobs you want. This class helps its student learn about the entire studio process for auditioning and recording sessions, helps with understanding the expectations of studio actors, and how to list inappropriate studio behaviors and know what to do when a session ends. You can access the class by telephone or on any internet device with a microphone, like an iPad.

The Los Angeles City College offers a Booking Commercials, six session course. For this beginner’s level course, you only need a reliable internet connection to successfully log in to Zoom each week. This course will teach you everything you need to know about how the commercial world works and how to book a commercial. Students will learn how to read off cue cards, memorize quickly and create exciting and unique characters while maintaining a sense of reality in a 30-second commercial.

If you want to expand your skills even more, the 2-Week On-Camera Acting Intensive with Tracy Kilpatrick course offered at Acting & Voice Studios might be best for you. It’s a 2-week intensive course over Zoom for actors 16 years and up. It’s live and interactive, with feedback directly from top casting director Tracey Kilpatrick. In the end, you will be sent your recordings from class for educational purposes.
