Bastille Day, or La Fête Nationale, celebrates the French Revolution, which overthrew the monarchy and established a republic. The Bastille was a fortress in Paris which held political prisoners and a large supply of gunpowder and ammunition. On July 14, 1789, rebels raided the fortress, a symbol of the royal government. Feudalism was abolished in August of 1789, but the storming of the Bastille was a turning point in the revolution.
We will mark the momentous occasion slightly en avance, on Thursday, July 11th, with a selection of French wines from importer Kermit Lynch, whose portfolio features “wines of the people”, family-owned, sustainably farmed properties. We’ll highlight the south of France, with producers to include Tempier, Vieux Telegraphe, La Tour Vieille, Trinquevedel, Fontsainte, Leccia, Clos Ste. Magdeleine, and d’Aupilhac. Vive la France! Allons enfants de la patrie!
