Have you been searching for the perfect dress pattern without finding one that matches your vision? This hands-on dressmaking course allows you to design a custom dress, create a sample, fit it precisely, and sew it from your choice of final fabrics. This follow-up course builds directly on the Flat Pattern Clothing Design foundation, using the sloper blocks you created in that course to bring your unique dress designs to life.
Whether you envision a comfortable everyday dress for regular wear or an elegant cocktail dress for special occasions, you will transform your design dreams into reality. Instructor Anastasia will guide you through every step of the process, from initial concept to the finished garment.
Class Process:
- Develop your dress concept, bring reference photos or inspiration images if possible. Anastasia will help you refine your ideas if you need assistance.
- Draft your dress pattern on paper using your custom sloper blocks as the foundation.
- Cut and sew a muslin test version of your dress to validate fit and confirm your style choices.
- Make necessary pattern adjustments based on how the muslin prototype performs.
- Cut and sew your final design using your chosen fabrics and notions.
- Celebrate wearing your handmade creation.
The course includes all supplies except for 5 yards of muslin, 2 pieces of 24-inch invisible zippers, and your choice of final garment fabrics and notions. All pattern drafting supplies are available to borrow during class.
Class sizes are limited and frequently reach capacity. Each participant has a dedicated sewing machine station reserved, so refunds are not available. If you know in advance that you will miss a class, please contact us to arrange attendance at a nearby session.
