  • Nice class and location to get to. Was able to finish one scarf project and warp up for a second one. This class really helps to have the encouragement of the teacher while you will make mistakes but have the instruction on how to prevent and fix mistakes. I need the hands on and it helped me a lot.
  • The class was great and the instructor was very helpful.
  • Class was a lot of fun the teacher was so helpful I really enjoyed it.
  • Love it !
  • Trudy is very patient with her students. She encourages your creativity while gently suggesting other ideas or color combinations. I appreciate her input as she is knowledgeable about creating a tapestry you will be happy with as an end result. The environment at The Knitting Tree is sure to motivate your inner artist. Annette, the owner, is also very helpful. The store is beautifully laid out with all kinds of yarns and everything you could possibly need that has to do with fiber arts and more! I highly recommend the classes and the visit to this amazing place!
  • Loved it. The space and the teacher were both excellent. Wish they sent you home with the loom but other than that, it was fantastic! Would definitely do another class with them!
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my class with Trudy Perry. Trudy is a great teacher. She is both patient and knowledgeable. She takes her time with you when teaching new techniques in weaving. The class was held at The Knitting Tree. You can tell that this store is more than just a place to buy beautiful yarns, etc, but it has a very communal feeling. It is really a lovely environment and everyone is also helpful, kind, and friendly. I highly recommend all classes at The Knitting Tree. This was my third class and I plan to take more!

  • I lucked out and ended up with a private class. Teacher was wonderful! Fun and informative.
  • Enjoyed the class a lot. Learned so much. Thought 4 hours would be very long, but at the end, I could have kept going. The teacher gave us knowledge that she said she wished she had known at the beginning of her weaving experiences . Kellee has a great personality and showed us how to begin a weaving and how to end a weaving, and several skills as well. So, I feel confident and feel I have the ability to keep going on my own or to take an intermediate class.
  • Want to have more advanced weaving class
  • I loved this class. The instructor, Lisa, was very informative and helpful. She never made us feel like we asked stupid questions. She kept the class moving along at a nice pace. I look forward to taking another class here.

  • I loved this class. My suggestions would be a single sheet of paper with terms and suggestions on it, and some ideas of future classes. Lisa is an excellent teacher very patient and knowledgable.
  • Fantastic Class!!!
  • I learned much more than I expected to. The instructor, Kara, was positive and supportive, and able to work with each student's learning agenda. The atmosphere in the shop was great. All in all it was a wonderful introduction to weaving and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning to weave.
  • Perfect - Instructor fantastic
  • Really enjoyed the class Cara was attentive to all of our needs, giving personal attention to each of us. She was patient , encouraging and knowledgeable and allowed time and encouragement for each of us to develop our own creative project. Made me want to take and additional class. However I would like the option of being able to bring in our own yarn.

Best Weaving Classes in Los Angeles

Weaving is an old craft that can be traced back to the Neolithic times. Today it can be done by hand or using a machine, and most of our textile needs are supplied by commercially woven cloth via machine. Some still make cloth using hand looms and keep the traditions of early weavers alive.

Weaving involves taking two sets of yarn and interlacing them at right angles to form fabric. It can be summarized as a repetition of shedding, picking, and beating up or battening. A long time ago, handloom weavers were mostly men because of the strength needed to batten, and power loom weavers were usually girls and young women.

Weaving can have more than one vertical or horizontal element, and the fabric that is created usually looks two-dimensional but is actually a three-dimensional form.

Weaving can teach individuals a lot about life, as it is a process full of lessons. Once individuals master weaving, they can create wall hangings, pouches, necklaces, placemats, and much more.
