Fall is the perfect time to plant trees and shrubs and this class will provide you the information you need to start or add to your permaculture forest garden this year. Tonight, you will learn about the multipurpose functions our canopy layer trees can provide in our forest gardens. You will also learn about different harvests we can glean from our canopy layer plants. Enjoy a tea made from some of these trees in class, and learn how to make your own delicious, nutty, hickory syrup at home.
This series of three classes on the forest garden canopy layer will give you everything you need to know to create an abundant, well-integrated shrub support system. Take one or take them all!

We are located on The Conservation Foundation's McDonald Farm in south Naperville. There is a long driveway on the north side of Knoch Knolls Road a 1/2 mile from Ring Road. Entrance to the parking area is to the right of the driveway just before the driveway circles.

Winter is the best time to prune most trees and shrubs. Proper pruning is the key to maintaining plant health and shape. Learn techniques for dormant winter pruning, pruning principles for trees and shrubs, and the proper use of tools. A portion of the class will consist of outdoor demonstration and practice.
