Peter Stallybrass

Teaches at The Newberry

Peter Stallybrass, whose work on material texts has served as a touchstone for students of book culture, will deliver our inaugural John M. Wing Lecture on the History of the Book. Dr. Stallybrass is the Walter H. and Leonore C. Annenberg Professor in the Humanities and Professor of English and of Comparative Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Pennsylvania. His seminar on the History of Material Texts has met weekly since 1993, and has brought together academics, librarians, writers, artists, and anyone interested in books and other cultural technologies. He has written extensively on early modern printing and manuscripts.
