Reviews for Craft Classes Online

Craft Classes Online are rated 4.6 stars based on 837 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Raphael's Fundamentals of Drawing class was an exceptional experience thanks to his personalized instruction and unwavering encouragement, creating a truly inspiring learning environment. The unique studio ambiance further enhanced the journey, making every session a delightful retreat into creativity. I wholeheartedly recommend this class to anyone seeking to grow their artistic skills in a supportive and engaging setting!
  • Really enjoyed the 3 week course. Raphael is a great artist & teacher. I didn’t have much experience with charcoal before but learned a ton and felt great about the piece i worked on in the class. Learned a lot about proportions and identifying values & shadows. Would definitely recommend!
  • Anjl was the perfect instructor! Supportive, affable, and funny. She shared her passion with me, and I could see how beneficial it is to doodle, so long as you do it mindfully.
  • I loved the class, I learned a lot of things because I am a new learner in this subject, but I needed more time to take more notes
  • Kat was gracious and patient in guiding our small class through the steps of Kintsugi. The class was informative, relaxing and fun. Highly recommend.
  • Cara is amazing. She is patient, kind and very knowledgable. She is very responsive to emails and questions. She is a talented artist. I took the class with my daughter and we now both have the coolest, most original hats to wear. I highly recommend taking this class.
  • Raphael is an exceptional art teacher! His classes are a perfect blend of skill-building and artistic exploration. He possesses a deep understanding of various art techniques and has a knack for explaining them in a clear and engaging way. What's more, his lessons are enriched by his vast knowledge of art history. He effortlessly weaves in fascinating insights about the origins of these techniques and the historical context in which they were developed, giving us a deeper appreciation for the art we create. What sets Raphael apart is his ability to nurture individual talent. He takes the time to understand each student's unique strengths and interests, providing personalized guidance and encouragement. He fosters a supportive and inspiring classroom environment where everyone feels comfortable experimenting with their art. Beyond technique, Raphael fosters a true understanding of art. He encourages us to think critically about the art we see and create, to analyze its meaning and impact. He opens our eyes to different artistic styles and movements, helping us to develop a well-rounded perspective. Raphael's passion for art is contagious, I highly recommend Raphael to anyone seeking to ignite and develop their artistic abilities, unlocking their creative potential. He is a truly gifted teacher who makes learning an enriching and enjoyable experience.
  • This class is a wonderful space for anyone who enjoys art and wants to begin working on their drawing and painting skills. Raphael is an amazing teacher who really understands beginners and knows how to approach them and their way of thinking. He's super knowledgable about the history of art, and it's just a pleasure being in the space that he's created. Before taking Raphael's classes, I did some sketching at home, but without actually being familiar with any drawing techniques, so I've taken 5 or 6 classes in this studio. In the beginner class, Raphael focuses on composition (which is super helpful because knowing how to start a drawing can be really difficult), shading (values/tones/what it means to give shape to an object and that erasing is also a part of painting), what an iterative process creating art is, and simply how to approach/understand/appreciate a work of art. Raphael encourages different mediums such as charcoal and pastels, neither of which I'd been exposed to before - it's been great learning how powerful both of these are. Also, the class takes place in an atelier filled with so many paintings, which I find really cool.
  • This class was very relaxing and my instructor was easy-going and made the session fun. In simple easy steps I was able to make beautiful complex looking abstract art. Perfect class after a busy stressed work-day. The time flew by and I learnt some fun doodles.
  • I took this class for a mental break from my job, and it ended up being a wonderful choice! The class is informative, and Raul was very helpful and encouraging throughout the process. You will learn a lot and expand your artistic knowledge in a very relaxed, easy-going environment.
  • The instructor was wonderful! I learned a lot in a fun and engaging atmosphere! I would definitely recommend this class!!
  • Loved the instructor…I really enjoyed the class
  • I love this class. Erin is great. The collage artists she covers range from very well known such as Joseph Cornell to the locally known artists like Eunice Parsons of Portland, Oregon. Erin’s demonstrations are very helpful in being able to take the techniques and subject matter of the artist discussed each week and interpret into your own work. The class not only provides the input and knowledge of the teacher Erin McClusky but also gives the opportunity to learn from the other students and their knowledge and recommendations of techniques and art supplies that have worked for them.
  • The instructor was kind patient and personable
  • Love the teacher. Great explanations of basics.
  • The instructor was a good communicator and instructor. Enjoyed it very much and pleased with my project. I would take another online class
  • Very useful class for someone with no experience like me. The teacher was really nice and patient!
  • i’ve been doodling every day since this class! so beginner friendly and very fun!
  • I really enjoyed taking this class. The instructor was very knowledgeable and very patient with a novice.
  • I had the most wonderful time in this class. Low commitment, high reward. Elizabeth is an amazing teacher and made the whole experience easy and positive. I was skeptical when I signed up for this class because it was virtual but I don’t think that had any negative affect! Would (and might) do again!
  • The Preserved Flower Arranging class was wonderful! The instructor shared so much about the different flowers and really walked you through ways to arrange them. The flowers are gorgeous and Petal & Eon was great to work with. Definitely will be looking into more of their workshops in the future!
  • Great class. Enjoyed learning the basics of Japanese Ink Painting. Instructor was great and there was plenty of time for questions and practice.
  • Good class!
  • Terrific teacher! Fun and interesting.
  • Wennie’s a great teacher-I’ve taken this class many times now and I always learn something new.
  • I loved the Instructor. She gave great suggestions on what tools are best to use. I am a beginner, so I found the ideas useful. I would love to take another one of her classes.
  • Small class was good opportunity for feedback from teacher and other students. All the students had specific and individual things they were working on. Many students had taken class before but everyone was friendly and helpful.
  • Eggplants in Dry Brush Watercolor

This course provides step-by-step instruction in dry brush watercoloring and Carrie Di Costanzo caters her instruction to accomodate the learning needs of both novice and experienced watercolor artists. Overall, the class met my expectations. Carrie's well-defined course syllabus with its art supply list, her model eggplant drawing, and palette color mixing guide gave attendees a nice headstart for a successful painting experience. There were sufficient breaks to move around and class time went by quickly. It was a thrill to virtually meet up with similar-minded individuals from across the country and observe everyone's progress throughout the day.
  • The instructor was very thorough. It was a fun and easy-to-understand session. I am happy there were only two of us; it created a low stress easy to follow instructions
  • Good teacher and group
  • We enjoyed this class with Rebecca. It was easy to follow and fun to make our own soap designs with the botanicals, colors, and fragrance we had chosen. We bought the kit ahead of time and that came with everything needed for the class. We would buy refills and do it again. The soaps can make nice gifts for others, and it’s nice to have a practical item you can use at the end of the class.
  • I am learning that there is more to drawing than just making lines and circles. It's an interesting course.
  • I took Jade Scarlett's painted mandala class in January, a perfect month for doing something special for myself. She gave a materials list that set you up for success in future mandala projects. I enjoyed her method of teaching, and sharing her ideas, and projects. She made sure everyone succeeded.
  • I had fun learning to draw at this class. I discovered that I may have a hidden talent. The teacher was encouraging, and the fun part was sharing our creativity with everyone in the class. I would definitely take this class again to improve my drawing skills.
  • I had so so so much fun and i actually used the arrangement i made as a reference to get a job at a florist. i got a one on one session with the instructor and he was so kind and so knowledgeable; he made it seem so easy! i would definitely recommend it to a friend :-)
  • Color Theory for Floral Design - Online

Excellent class. I learned so much about colors and flowers. Wonderful teacher. Very knowledgeable.
  • Essential Oil Perfume Workshop - Online

Fun class. Enjoyed learning about and working with essential oils.
  • Peter has an ability to push and encourage each person’s talent. I recall an example of a statement which resonated with me to my core, comparing an individual artist to a person’s voice. We each have our own style and voice which needs to be developed, and is so powerfully unique! One can give the tools, but that one voice/artist tapping into their own experience is excitingly powerful. I felt the nurturing of my own talent emerging through my experience with Peter, as well as the “students” who were so supportive, as more of a mentor or coach through these eight classes. Highly recommended!!!
  • We had a blast! - Emma, Maddie, Sue and Ed
  • Great class.
  • The teacher, Isaac, was patient, encouraging and knowledgeable in teaching us the drawing and shading of basic shapes. This was the best class I have had in shading with pencils and I learned a great deal.
  • Wry good class. Learned alot
  • Isaac went through everything so clearly with simple explanations. The 90 minutes flew by!
  • This is the second class I have taken with Jade. She is so talented and explains the process in detail and answering any questions a student has. A very relaxing class, thr 2 hours flew by! Awaiting her email with so I can show her my work!
  • I really enjoyed this class. The instructor was wonderful with the video, funny, answered all questions and was a pleasure to watch. I'm glad I took this class. Many thanks.
  • Loved it and ordered new pack from company today
  • Wonderful intro into cartooning! I was able to practice my expressions and body positions.
  • Great class- lots of fun!
  • I loved the class. The instructor Jim was informative and patient. He told me about how flower arranging is used and has been used in a number of cultures and situations. He told me about each flower that I put in my arrangement and where they from. I was the only one who showed up for class so I got to have a one on one teaching session with him. I will recommend the class to my family and friends!
  • Great class. The instructor was very knowledgeable and engaging!

Discover the Best Crafting Classes Online

Crafting involves using your skill and creativity to make something by hand. There are many different types of crafting, involving a wide range of different materials, including leather, clay, metal, and wood. Some people work with new materials, while others repurpose and upcycle old items. These materials are used to create all kinds of things, ranging from candles, to shoes, to food. Some types of crafting are focused on creating more utilitarian items such as furniture or clothing, while others are more decorative such as home decor items. Whatever their use, all items are one-of-a-kind.

Why You Should Learn Crafting Online

One of the most common reasons that people take up crafting is that there can be an immense sense of satisfaction in creating something with your own hands. Unlike buying something from the store, crafting takes time, skill, and effort, which makes the finished product more meaningful.

Crafting can also be a therapeutic activity. When you craft, you focus on the moment, thinking about how to combine your materials in a unique and beautiful way. Many people say that crafting helps boost their mood and self-esteem, and helps them temporarily forget about their worries.

Virtual Crafting Classes

Many people like online crafting classes because they can be taken from the comfort of home. While students who learn online generally have to supply their own materials, they save money by eliminating a commute. In many cases, students who learn online also have more class choices since they aren’t limited to schools that they can easily travel to.

The Chicago Botanic Garden offers an online crafting class called Introduction to Weaving. In the first class session, students learn how to make their own looms. After that, the instructor covers a variety of different tapestry techniques, including basket weave, pile, twill, rya, and soumak. There are also presentations on contemporary handweavers. Tuition for this class is $374, and there are eight sessions, of two hours each. Students will receive a supply list after registering.

Love & Make is based in Houston, but also offers craft workshops in an online format. In the Virtual Candle Making Workshop, an instructor teaches students how to make a soy wax candle. The class includes basic candle-making steps, tips and tricks, and troubleshooting. Supplies are not included. The workshop is an hour long and costs $25.

Love & Make also offers a class called Virtual Melt & Pour Soap-Making Workshop. This hour-long class is $25. It covers the basics of melt and pour soapmaking, in addition to some history. Students learn about different ingredients and recipes, and make their own soap. A supply list is available online.

The Chicago-based Evanston Art Company also offers virtual crafting instruction. Paper Remix I is a collage-making class where students use a variety of different papers and techniques to create collage compositions. This course has six sessions, and costs $205. A supply list is available online.

Another virtual crafting class option is Ceramic Llama Painting, offered through Food Craft. This class is $750, and is two hours long. Students learn how to paint a ceramic llama, get fun facts about llamas, and do a virtual tour of a llama farm. Supplies are provided, with three different packages to choose from.

Private Online Group Crafting Classes

If you’re trying to plan an entertaining activity for a large group of people, a private group crafting class might be the perfect option. CourseHorse offers a wide range of different crafting classes for groups, and makes the booking process quick and easy. You don’t need to register, and you don’t need to pay a booking fee. You’ll also receive a confirmation of your booking within 24 hours. There is even a flexible change policy, where you can change your total group size up to 72 hours before your event, provided that you meet the minimum group size.

Virtual Soap Making is a popular group class, where participants learn to hand make soap. An instructor covers basic soap-making techniques, different recipes, and the benefits of making your own soap. Students also learn how to personalize their soap with botanicals and other additives. Prior to the start of class, all necessary supplies are shipped to each participant, including shea butter soap base, dyes and fragrances, molds, and soap boxes. Up to 500 people can take this class at one time. It costs $105 per person, and runs for two hours.

The Virtual Macrame Workshop is another virtual option for groups. Students in this class tie different types of knots to create their own plant hangers. Each participant leaves the class with their own unique hanging planter. A macrame kit is mailed ahead of time, and contains enough cord to make three planters. This class can be taken by up to 500 people at once, and costs $85 per person. It is one hour long.

Another fun group class is Virtual Tote Bag Painting. In this class, participants paint a design on a canvas tote bag. They are guided by an instructor, who makes sure that even novice painters are successful. This class can accommodate up to 500 people, costs $80 per person, and runs for an hour and a half. Everyone in the group paints the same image, which can be chosen from an online catalog, or sent in beforehand. A tote bag, brushes, and fabric paint are mailed to participants before the class, and a bottle of wine can also be included for an additional $30 per person.

CourseHorse classes generally run through Zoom, but if you prefer a different platform, Google Meets, Microsoft Teams, and WebEx are also supported. Email CourseHorse for more information about scheduling a private event listed on its website, or to talk about other options for groups.

Online Vs. In-Person Crafting Classes

Crafting classes can be found in both in-person and online formats. Each one has advantages and disadvantages, and the best option will depend on a number of things, including your personal learning style, and where you live.

If you live close to an in-person crafting class, this might be a good option for you. Many people find in-person learning to be the best way to learn new skills since it involves a more direct learning experience. With in-person learning, instructors can easily provide feedback, and see what students need additional help. It can be easier to concentrate too, since there are usually fewer distractions in an in-person classroom.

However, not everyone has easy access to an in-person crafting class. If you can’t find a convenient in-person option, an online course might be a better fit. With an online course, you attend by logging in on a computer. Many online classes run virtually, with live instruction and feedback that is similar to in-person learning. Some people actually feel more comfortable learning and asking questions from behind a screen, rather than in front of a room full of people.
