Reviews for Acting Classes Online

Acting Classes Online are rated 4.6 stars based on 500 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • It was so much fun and I loved how we got to practice with a variety of characters.
  • Jen knows her stuff, obviously, after years of experience in the business. She’s direct, no-nonsense, yet very encouraging, and supportive. Highly recommended!
  • It's clear Allison likes actors. She was collaborative with each & every participant. And she radiates easy joy. She's a perfect person to help actors in this format, and I hope I have the luck to see her again--in a professional capacity.
  • Darren is a phenomenal teacher. Every professional voice actor I have worked with has sang his praises and it is extremely easy to see why. He goes above and beyond and really knows how to speak to all different types of personalities. I have no idea how he even finds the time to do this because this guy is ALWAYS working! Pay attention when he is working with others in your group because sometimes it's easier to hear exactly what he's talking about when you're not focusing on your own script. I went old school analogue and brought a pen and paper and by the end of the three weeks I had a lot of solid info I used on auditions. Believe it or not, I have been doing extremely well since course. If you think you've finally learned it all, you haven't. Check out Darren you won't regret it!
  • Awesome class, Arielle gave clear, helpful answers to questions and effective guidance. I intend on taking a class of hers again.
  • Darren's class was wonderful. Absolutely loved that he played the other characters so that I could act off of him. Truly a fun time and I'll happily take it again.
  • Jennifer Simms has so much energy. She is enthusiastic, animated and very encouraging in her feedback. It is my second class with Jenn. She delivered an insightful Q&A session that was valuable. Thank you.
  • It was fun and informative. The instructor kept us engaged and offered useful feedback.
  • I thought it was great! Everyone should take a class like that. Not only helps in your acting, but also in your every day life.
  • Great class, I just loved it! Great teacher, I will attend more classes.
  • The instructor was attentive to each participant.
  • I really enjoyed the class. The class leader had high energy and made everyone feel included and comfortable. It was suitable for beginners but would make a great practice/ review session to people who have attended previously. I learnt a fair bit from the fantastic Q&A session at the end and from other participants. Thank you
  • Solid class.
  • Really enjoyed the class. Good intro, fun doing the readings, good feedback. Different than what I had pictured as a lecture class and was more interactive.
  • This class was amazing. I learned so many helpful tools from Paul. He also has a way of making everyone feel comfortable to be themselves regardless of their skill level. I highly recommend taking this course if you are serious about working in animation.
  • I thought it was an interesting class - and very affordable. I appreciated the time he took with every student. Thanks!
  • The class was educational and fun.
  • It was an amazing and interesting class. I hope I can get it back in the future.
  • Paul was absolutely amazing! I started off very much a beginner in the field, and by the end Paul, had given me the confidence and the tools to continue on the VO path. The tips, tools and words of wisdom he shared with us will always stick with me.
  • Absolutely fantastic! I learned a lot from it, and taking both this and the intro class is one really nice package. Definitely worth the cost. Darren is very positive and uplifting throughout- which is quite contagious! I tend to be very nervous, but he makes the class incredibly welcoming. My only complaint is that there aren't more classes to take haha!
  • Tessa is an amazing teacher! She excels in delivering both positive and constructive feedback. I feel more confident and excited about VO having taken this course.
  • Absolutely amazing! Darren does a wonderful job encouraging the entire class and has many ways to spin a scene. I learned a lot from this- especially dubbing as I hadn't gotten a chance to try it yet. The classes covered an array of different types of scripts, and he was great at matching scripts to voices as the classes continued. I'm excited to be returning in his advanced course!
  • The Instructor gave us a full overview of what it takes to do voiceovers in the industry.. as well as some technical guides.. and exercises to maintain our voice. Most helpful was understanding emotional intent while reading. Great class.. fun and interesting. Learned alot
  • Andy Roth is an amazing teacher. He meets every student where he/she is and moves them forward. He creates a safe, comfortable and embracing community of people. His ability to present the material with honesty, humor, and fun is terrific. I cannot sing his praises enough. Incredible.
  • This class was fantastic! It was so informative and most of all fun!
  • It's an engaging, nice class with lots of practice.
  • Anthony is a wonderful teacher! He's methodical, humorous, expert, and totally inclusive. I have had a good deal of improv and still I learned a lot from him. Highly recommended.
  • As a beginner, I found the classes and the feedbacks to be super helpful! The overall vibe was extremely welcoming which I absolutely loved Would definitely join again if the opportunity ever rises
  • First time taking his course and I knew I chose one of the best in the industry. I love Paul Liberti! The best investment I have made. He’s sweet, helpful, knowledgeable, humble and energetic! Do yourself the favor and take his class. He truly is a gem!
  • I absolutely love this class! It has really helped with my self confidence and my ability to speak in front of a large group of people!
  • I thought the class was great. The teacher was awesome.
  • Oh my god, just the best storytelling course with the best teacher. Bryan Kett's (our teacher) mastery gave me a glimpse of what it would be like to practice and practice at the craft for years -- and now more than ever, it's a future I'm inspired to claim for myself.
  • The class was really excellent. This was my first Coursehorse experience and I really didn't know what to expect. I recommend it to anyone interested in audiobook narration. Totally worth the time and money. I will be looking into my courses on this site.
  • The class was great! The instructor, Eric Yves Garcia , was as friendly and thoughtful as he was informative and professional. I was given very sound critiques for the practice pieces that we did and Eric provided us with resources that will definitely be useful as I break into doing voice work. I wholeheartedly recommend this class. Joyce Miller Bean
  • Eric was great! He shared all the ins and outs with us regarding voiceovers for books. He was patient, kind and gave important/thoughtful feedback.
  • Really good warm up for those of us who have had training in Linklater. The teacher brings her own wonderful way of connecting meaning to the techniques/
  • Andy was great! He taught us a lot of helpful tips and he helped build my self confidence. Thanks!
  • I thought it was good, she gave us good tips . I thought she would've started us off with some warm up exercises first. That would've been good to have in the tool belt especially for beginners and then start with lines. Overall, I enjoyed it.
  • Awesome class. Great opportunity to learn new skills and enhance what you know.
  • Eric was knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and flexible! He tailored the class to our needs and gave insightful, constructive feedback on our readings. Feel like I have a few more tools in my VO box thanks to this class.:)
  • The greatest
  • John is a great teacher and a fun person. Those are critical for learning. Nobody wants a teacher who is judgey or mean or just not fun. For such a short class, I learned a ton. Thanks so much John!
  • Good class, unfortunately ran out of time before we could have both reading selections critiqued.
  • Eric is insightful, kind and creative. I really enjoyed taking this course as he touches on every aspect of audiobook narration and even went over class time as we had many questions. He mentioned the possibility of a part two class and I'm looking forward to when that happens!
  • Eric is so kind and informative. Also, his voice is so nice to listen to -- makes sense that he's a narrator! I hope he does a Level 2 class, I would love to take it.
  • Eric delivered the goods -- masterfully guiding students through a day in the life of a narrator from prep work, self-care, technical proficiency, and beyond. And what a voice! He's in the right field. Fingers crossed for a Partt 2 to this course.
  • This was a truly fantastic class. I loved every minute of it and told everyone in my commercial VO class that they should take it. Eric is a warm, informative and perceptive teacher - he gave me great notes which turned my performance around. Highly recommended!
  • Eric is warm and informative. His feedback and coaching was on point. I would highly recommend for anyone considering the class.
  • Eric Yves Garcia's class offers two helpful angles for people thinking about working in audiobook narration. First, he shares a detailed overview on working in the industry and the end-to-end process of getting and finishing a job, including mid-pandemic. Second, he gives on-the-spot notes and direction to students who read selections they have prepared for the class. The chance to re-read after feedback is truly useful, and the techniques suggested to individuals are useful for all of the students in the class. An enjoyable and professional session!
  • Great course instruction. Would make an outstanding one on one instructor. I hope he offers Advanced small group work.

Discover the Best Acting Classes Online

Acting is a great art form that can be expressed in a number of different ways. Actors can display their talents on Broadway, in commercials, or in the next big blockbuster hit. Whatever form of acting one chooses to pursue requires hard work and dedication. Another unique quality about acting is that anyone can learn the art.

Why You Should Learn Acting Online

Whatever sparks your curiosity, now is a great time to learn acting. You can learn acting because you are looking for a new hobby. There are a great deal of schools that offer acting courses. Whether it is one-time or several sessions, you can get exposed to acting and grow your school at your own pace. Taking on acting as a hobby can be a great way to break up your day-to-day tasks and something to enjoy in your free time. Acting can also give you access to a larger community of support and contacts. Beginning acting classes at a local school can help you meet other artists and learn about other acting events, organizations, and even national clubs that you would otherwise not be familiar with. Finally, taking an acting class online can enhance your employable skills. Individuals can take an acting class to become more confident speakers, think quicker on their feet, or improve their critical thinking skills. While most acting classes market these skills for aspiring actors, they can be helpful to most people.

Virtual Acting Classes

Virtual acting classes are an excellent opportunity to gain access to the training needed to enter the world of acting. There are some advantages and disadvantages to taking classes online versus in-person. First, online acting classes can be taken from anywhere if you have an internet connection. Whether you are on vacation, stayed over at work, or don’t feel like leaving your couch, grab your computer and log onto your class without missing a beat. Similar to taking classes from anywhere, virtual classes offer you the opportunity to have access to more options. Let’s say a great acting school in LA provides a course, but you live in Chicago. With online classes, you are not limited to acting schools in your area. As long as the course is virtual, you can attend. Finally, there is no commute time, saving you time and money. For example, if class starts at 5:30 but you get off work at 5, there is no need to worry about getting across town during rush hour and finding parking on time. A virtual option offers access, opportunity, and convenience.

Conversely, virtual acting classes might not be the best option for everyone. Certain acting styles might be better suited for in-person, mainly if you are a novice. Additionally, taking an online class means you need your materials which can be costly depending on the course. If the benefits outweigh the cons, then there are plenty of options for virtual acting courses. Voice over courses, for example, are a perfect online option.

Edge Studio Voice Over school has quite a few classes. In addition, they offer a Voice Over Home Studio 101 real-time webinar. The course runs for 2 hours and is led by a pro voice actor. Home Studio 101 will help students understand the fundamentals of creating a professional home studio. The course is aimed to teach students to understand the basics of acoustics to reduce external noise and reflected sound. They will receive equipment software recommendations within your budget, learn how to configure the hardware and software, and various other skills.

If you want to learn how to market yourself as a voice over actor, Voice Over Marketing 101 at Edge Studio Voice Over would also be ideal. This 2-hour webinar for $45 helps students understand the fundamentals of marketing yourself as a voice over talent. If students want to understand the importance of securing voice over work, be able to list and describe the different types of work available, and create a personal marketing plan; this is the course.

Don’t Embarrass Yourself, offered at Edge Studio Voice Over, is about learning to think like a working voice actor and know how to behave professionally to avoid embarrassing yourself and being blacklisted from jobs. For this beneficial course, you can be a casual learner, an aspiring professional, or a working professional; either way, you will benefit. Don’t Embarrass Yourself is about learning basic etiquette and industry terminology in a professional recording studio. Students will leave knowing the entire studio process, understanding their expectations as an actor, and knowing what to do after the session ends. This course is an excellent opportunity to learn or maintain your professionalism as an actor to ensure you have a great reputation in the industry.

Perhaps you need to improve or develop your audition skills; Auditions 101 is a great option. Auditions 101 is a real-time webinar led by a pro actor and a great learning opportunity. This class is high-energy, interactive, and performance-based. Students can expect to read actual scripts and deliver just like they would in a real audition. After the “audition, ” students will receive feedback from a qualified coach. Each class focuses on a new set of scripts, so you can attend the course multiple times and still learn something new. Auditions 101 lasts for two hours and costs $45.

Finally, the Voice Over Business and Money 101 course ensures you understand the importance of building your business and properly investing your time and money. There is so much more to being in the industry than just performing; you must ensure you properly invest in yourself and your craft. Business and Money 101 is a 2-hour webinar that will help students consider the financial aspects of being a voice over. Students can expect to walk away with a host of knowledge such as what insurance they need or even how to get established as a professional voice actor. This course has many class objectives making it worth the $45 investment. In addition, loads of other virtual acting courses are available to view at CourseHorse that will likely fit your acting needs.

Private Online Group Acting Classes

If you are planning your next company outing or a team event, why not consider a private online group acting class? CourseHorse offers online courses tailored for private group events. For example, you can host the Virtual Team-Building Improv Workshop with your team as your next event. Don’t worry about being an actor; this class is designed for your team to have fun, collaborate better, and make quick decisions. It’s a 60-minute workshop that CourseHorse can completely plan for your team. Hosted over Zoom, the price starts at $500 for up to 10 people. Any person after that is $25 per person. You could also have CourseHorse customize the event to cater to your team’s needs.

If the Improv course differs from what you are looking for in a team-building event, don’t worry; CourseHorse can design just about any custom event for you and your team. It could look like combining two different events they have listed on their site or having their team plan an event based on your needs. If needed, your group size can be changed after booking, and there is no booking fee. Once you complete the contact form on the CourseHorse website, you can expect to hear back from an event planner within two business hours.

Online Vs. In-Person Acting Classes

No matter the preference, there is a difference between taking classes online versus in-person. Online courses offer the convenience of taking lessons from anywhere and connecting with people from all over. While in-person classes do not provide that benefit, they allow for a more emotional connection with other students. Being virtual can make it challenging to connect with other actors, particularly your scene actors, whereas, in-person, you all can feed off each other’s energy.

In-person acting also allows for recording a scene and re-watching the recording immediately after for feedback. Acting courses or workshops conducted via Zoom or other virtual platforms make this challenging because if there are multiple students, you must wait until the end to review the entire session. This can limit an actor’s ability to receive instant feedback as they would need to wait until the recording is available after class.

Though there are differences between in-person and virtual acting classes, there are benefits to both. Choose based on your needs; either way, you still have the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge from either type of course.

Can I Learn Acting for Free Online?

Yes, you can learn acting for free online. While more formal training is ideal and a preferable way to learn, you can find free online tutorials that can teach acting. Sites like YouTube or online forums are what you need to start learning about the arts at your own pace without the added pressure of needing to complete a course on a deadline. In addition, you can find free books online or at your local library that help you learn basic acting concepts and pique your interest.
