Class Description

Description

Explore the rich complexity of Beaujolais wines as shaped by diverse soil compositions and distinct fermentation approaches. This in-depth class examines how carbonic maceration and traditional fermentation techniques influence the flavors that end up in your glass, and reveals how the granitic soils of Crus Beaujolais produce wines with unique character and aging potential. While Beaujolais Nouveau offers a casual drinking experience, the broader story of this region presents surprisingly sophisticated layers of interest.

The curriculum traces Beaujolais' history, geography, and climate while surveying its distinctive wines, positioning the region as a gateway to southern France. From there, you will journey east to discover the lesser-known but increasingly acclaimed wines of Jura and Savoie along the Swiss border south of Lake Geneva. Though historically underrepresented in international markets, these wines have gained traction among wine enthusiasts and are featured prominently in trendy wine bars and restaurants worldwide.
