Class Description

Description

Interior design projects encompass a wide range of work, from completely new construction to comprehensive renovation, modernization, or refurbishment of existing spaces and facilities. This course is designed for individuals considering a career in interior design. It offers a broad introduction to the field, outlining the education pathways and essential skills required for success.

The primary focus of this course is residential interior design, which typically encompasses specialized areas such as kitchen design, bathroom remodeling, home office planning, and custom furniture creation. Through collaborative class discussions and carefully selected residential design projects, students examine numerous critical design concepts. These include the fundamental principles and elements of design; the strategic use and application of color; space planning and dimensional standards; and the thoughtful assembly of furniture, materials, surfaces, textures, and coordinated color schemes. Students will gain exposure to essential residential design resources, including manufacturers, design showrooms, and material suppliers.

At the beginning of the course, you will receive detailed information about acquiring the required drawing materials and supplies. Online learning participants will engage in active discussions with fellow students and instructors. Students taking online courses will require access to a computer with audio capabilities, such as speakers or headphones, along with a scanner and digital camera. Course projects are compiled in PowerPoint format for Windows users or Keynote format for Mac users.
