Reviews for Craft Classes

Craft Classes are rated 4.6 stars based on 85,114 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Felt welcoming and peaceful. Nice to be in a group of quiet focus
  • Challenging in the best way! Loved the mix of technique and freedom. Left sweaty, inspired, and wanting more. Definitely coming back.
  • Peter was a fantastic teacher. I’m looking forward to taking more classes with him. The lessons have been invaluable and I feel really confident about my progress.
  • My experience at Jalopy School of Music was a positive one. The class size was small(3 students) and that felt perfect for a beginner group. We had a great instructor, Kyle M. I still have a long way to go on my guitar journey and I felt like this was a good 1st step for me.
  • The instructor was very knowledgeable in soap making and provided many tips for the students to become successful in their soap making. Very fun class!
  • Our instruction was helpful, friendly, and experienced. The class was extremely immersive and exciting. Would definitely recommend and will come back!
  • This was a really nice experience and I learned a lot! Great instructor, lovely kitchen space.
  • Anna was a great instructor - gave very helpful demonstration and remained very attentive to everyone's projects
  • Such an excellent way to be introduced to wheel throwing! Our instructor Siri was excellent— she explained the process well, and was very helpful as we encountered new questions and created new problems. We made multiple pieces each, and while only one firing is included in the class fee, the firing fee for additional pieces is so inexpensive that we ended up deciding to keep everything we made. We may be back to take more classes and learn more advanced skills :D
  • Clear, friendly instruction, lots of attempts to play around on the wheel, in a large workspace where more professional people were working and lots of cool work on the walls for inspiration. Price felt exactly right. Very messy, very fun!
  • He taught me a lot in the two hour session I was with him. I think more then I expected.
  • I came in with 2 pair of pants that I wanted to learn how to repair and did just that even though I never used a sewing machine before. My instructor, Wioletta, was amazing. Patience, encouraging, and light hearted. The hour went by so quickly. I didn't have any real interest in learning how to sew before this, but now I purchased my first sewing machine and I'm considering taking the 101 bootcamp!
  • This tour was really good - when it started, you sat down and they took your order for a free drink, and then you were free to leave the cabin and go out on the deck. If you head out early you can get a good spot so that you can see the NY landmarks. Also, when you got to the Statue of Liberty, they had an assistant there ready to clear an area of the deck so that everyone could take at least one picture if they wanted, which I thought was cool (since many people had flocked to the deck to take pictures of her and it blocked a lot of space). Overall, this was so relaxing. I will say, perfect date night idea!
  • Detail oriented instructor and beginner friendly class.
  • Lots of personal attention, care, and encouragement, and everything provided. It really gave a good introduction to the skills and techniques you need to become a jeweler.
  • Great intro into sewing basics. Very laid back and comfortable atmosphere.
  • Highly recommend. The Home Cooking kitchen is immaculate, and well stocked. Our instructor, Chef Al as super personable and shared several cooking tips for preparing dips, noodles, knife skills, deboning chicken .... and also provided detailed hand-outs so we could replicate at home. The class was fun, interactive and informative. What's more, we had time to test and enjoy a delicious Vietnamese dinner, family style, all within the 3 hour time slot. I absolutely loved the shrimp/pork spring rolls, and the marinated chicken. Loved it so much I've signed up for another class.
  • One of the best experiences I've had in a while. the chef was amazing the food was incredible, I would recommend to anyone that has never been or done a cooking class. 10 starts
  • I took the Fundamentals of Drawing & Painting and I loved it! I reconnected with my passion for art and I was guided very well to complete a piece of art I was proud of and could hang up! Would 100% recommend!
  • Learned so much in this class! Instructor was knowledgeable and personable, food was great, and I feel like I have a lot of takeaways that I'll be able to actually implement on my own.
  • Great instructor.
  • Ocie was fabulous - skilled and clear! It was a pleasure taking this class!
  • This was a really fun class for my teenage daughter and I to take together!
  • This class was so much fun — my husband and I learned a lot and enjoyed a delicious meal at the end of it.
  • I had THE MOST fun in this class. The instructor was a riot - super high energy, and the bar was actually so nice (the food slaps). The cocktails were delicious, and you get a variety. It's 100% worth the money for this one. Would highly recommend.
  • This class was great! A lot of good information up front - the first half of the class is dedicated to the book-knowledge, whereas the second is the more technical knowledge. You get to take the flowers and pot home with you, so it's worth it. The instructor was sooooo cute - she's a riot, and she's super fun to work with. Would highly recommend.
  • Fun, great instructor.
  • It exceeded my expectations. Sam was such a gifted and thoughtful teacher. 10/10
  • What a great yoga center! I really enjoyed going there twice a week for 4 weeks and being led by the experienced and warm teacher Aspara. Most students didn’t have much yoga experience and each class explored one of the 5 foundations of yoga (breathing, meditation, diet, positive thinking and poses). We went through the twelve poses in a slow and controlled pace. No pressure here, you do what you can! Price is very reasonable since the center is supported by volunteers. I’m looking at taking another class.
  • Alina Oswald is an excellent, patient instructor.. The lesson was methodical and well-paced. She provided helpful printed material during the lesson and the next day emailed me extensive follow-up information relevant to the lesson. I recommend her highly!
  • This was so fun! I brought my friend and we love to do arts projects. We brought our own beer and had a great time. There was not a lot of time to sip our beer during the class but that’s because we were very focused on the artwork. If you are a little unfamiliar with painting I would say the pace of the instruction may be a little fast. But I am already excited to come back.
  • James was a caring, dedicated, and passionate teacher. I have taken many drawing classes over the years and this was one of the best, and I've learned new skills as well! I highly recommend this class to anyone he wants to be taught by a wonderful teacher, and enhance their skills.
  • I really enjoyed the work. Finding my voice. Being challenged to write. Being honest. Learn to Take a risk. I would recommend to anyone. I’d definitely do it again.
  • It was great! ? I had a lot of fun. Thank you.
  • The event exceeded expectations. Everything was excellent. Thanks for your help.
  • Thank you and well done! Robert was great, and the initial feedback I received from students is that they had a lot of fun in the mystery murder escape room.
  • It was great! Everyone really loved it!
  • My team really loved the event! First time doing a virtual escape room and definitely not going to be the last time. We can't wait for another event!
  • Please give my best to the whole team, we had a great time and big laughs. Yu was amazing and it was great to hear someone "nerd out" about something they're passionate about.
  • Thank you very much Erin for hosting the event! It was great fun! ?
  • The origami class went well. Yu was a fantastic teacher, and she was so patient with me while I was trying to sort out the technical difficulties we faced on our end. Please thank her again from us. We appreciate CourseHorse working with us to create a class that suited our needs so well. Thank you!!!
  • Everything went really well—Erik was a hit with the team and incredibly knowledgeable. We’ll definitely be returning!
  • Our instructor Kavina was amazing! We had such a fun time and loved the class thanks to Kavina. Thank you for your assistance in coordinating!
  • Thanks so much! We very much enjoyed our time, and I’d like to plan for the next one.
  • I've heard nothing but great feedback and they all had a great time! Thank you again!
  • You guys did an incredible job and I know our group was a lot to handle, so thank you again.
  • It was a lot of fun, everyone had a great time and Nik did a great job of hosting!
  • I'm completely new, I took two classes. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. The class has a group of people who consistently go there, so there is a community. Great intro to improv, and I totally will come back.
  • Loved this course so much I'm already trying to figure out a next level of it! Even as someone who already does cook at home, especially within my culture's cuisine I learned so much in this class. In particular strong foundational things that ground you in how to think about food and cooking so that we can continue exploring ingredients and flavors beyond what we do in class. Very highly recommend!
  • The room needed little ventilation and air but the instructor was very good, very knowledgeable in the dance, really liked how every move in the warm ups came together into something cool at the end!

Discover the Best Crafting Classes Near Me

Crafting is the process of using skill and creativity to make something by hand. People who craft use a wide range of different materials including wood, metal, textiles, and even food. They use these materials to create many different things such as jewelry, furniture, and clothing. For some people, crafting is a hobby, while for others it is a profession.

The tools and materials used in crafting vary, depending on the specific craft. Some people work with things like paper, yarn, paints, or food, which are relatively cheap and easy to find. Other crafts involve more specialized materials like metal, wax, and clay. In addition, some types of crafting require specialized tools and equipment.

Why You Should Learn Crafting

There are many different reasons to learn crafting. One is practical; you can save money by making your own clothing, home decor, or other items. You can also reduce waste by repurposing or upcycling old items. In addition, the items that you create can not only save you money and help you live more sustainably, but they will be one-of-a-kind pieces, unlike anything you can buy.

Crafting is also a creative activity, and lots of people learn it because they get a sense of achievement and satisfaction from making something beautiful with their own hands. With many types of crafts, you are only limited by your imagination, and you can experiment with different styles to create something unique.

Finally, crafting can be good for your mental health. Many people say that they forget about their worries, and relax when they are focused on the process of crafting. In addition, the sense of accomplishment that comes from creating something with your own hands can boost your mood and self-esteem.

5 Ways to Learn Crafting

There are many different ways to learn crafting.

  1. A lot of people start with free online resources like YouTube. Free resources can give you an overview of your chosen craft, including how hard it is to learn, and what supplies you’ll need. This can be a great way to start any type of crafting, and it will help you decide whether that craft is really for you, and what type of class you might want to take to learn more. Free resources can also be helpful for more experienced crafters who are troubleshooting a problem, or looking for an answer to a specific question.
  2. If you’re serious about learning crafting, you’ll probably want to go beyond free resources, and sign up for a paid class. In a paid class, you’ll get guidance from an expert and won’t be left to learn by yourself, through trial and error. If you opt for an in-person class, you’ll typically have access to equipment and materials too.
  3. You can also learn crafting virtually. With this format, you won’t have to deal with a commute. You’ll also be able to choose from a greater number of classes; you could even learn from a teacher on the other side of the country.
  4. On-demand classes are another popular format. These are generally the cheapest type of class option, and also the most flexible. With an on-demand crafting class, you can work through the material at your own pace, stopping and starting whenever you need to.
  5. You can also learn crafting through an apprenticeship. This is a popular way to learn many different types of crafts, and involves shadowing an expert. Apprentices get training and experience in their chosen field and are typically paid for their time. If you’re looking for something less formal, you could do an internship, which is usually unpaid and involves a lesser time commitment.

In-Person Crafting Classes

If you want to take an in-person crafting class, you’ll find many different options. Major metropolitan areas, in particular, are great places to find in-person crafting classes. For instance, New York City, with its diverse art scene, has a variety of different choices. The Back Porch Soap Company, which is located in the Upper West Side, runs both soap- and candle-making classes. Candle Making Class NYC is a two-and-a-half-hour class where students create custom container candles. They make two candles in total–one soy wax and one coconut wax–and customize them by adding their own color and essential oils. Students also receive a handout to take home, with detailed instructions and formulas. Tuition is $248.

Back Porch Soap Company also offers a class called Cold Process Soap Making Class. In this class, students use the cold process method to make soap from scratch. They personalize their soaps by adding essential oils, colorants, and botanicals. The instructor also goes over how to work safely with lye, and where to buy cold process supplies. Each participant takes home their own batch of soap. The class runs for two and a half hours and costs $248.

Brooklyn Craft Company is located in Brooklyn, which is less than five miles from Manhattan, and offers a number of different types of sewing-related classes. Its Beginner Embroidery Workshop is $45, and runs for three hours. Students in this class learn embroidery basics, and complete a peace-sign hoop. The instructor covers transferring a printed image to fabric, basic outline stitch, filler stitch, framing a finished piece, and different types of fabric, embroidery floss, and needles.

Students interested in candle making will find a candle-making class in Los Angeles, at Los Angeles City College, which is less than five miles from downtown Los Angeles. In Candle Making, students learn how to make different types of candles, how to use molds, how to add fragrance and color, and how to source supplies. They will complete a number of candles of their own, and leave with the skills they need to make more at home. This class is three hours long, and costs $70. There is also a $25 materials fee. Los Angeles City College is one of the oldest community colleges in Los Angeles, and works to empower students from diverse communities.

Los Angeles-based students can also learn knitting at the Knitting Tree. Beginning Knitting Fridays is $80, and has four sessions. Students work on a scarf, a hat, and a shawl, learning how to cast on, how to knit and purl, how to read a pattern, how to work on circular and double pointed needles, and how to read a yarn label. This class will leave participants prepared to knit more difficult items such as socks and garments. The Knitting Tree is in Inglewood, which is about 12 miles southwest of Los Angeles. The store sells yarns and handcrafted items, and also offers classes and project ideas.

Another craft class in Los Angeles takes place at El Camino College, which is a public community college in Torrance. In Soap Making–Cold Process Method, participants learn to make soap using the cold process method. The class is appropriate for both beginners and more experienced soap makers. Participants should dress for a hands-on experience. The class costs $79, and is three hours long. There is also a $35 materials fee. El Camino College is about 15 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

In Chicago, the Evanston Art Center offers a class called Cardboard and Paper Assemblage, which is $130 and three hours long. This class is focused on using cardboard, recycled paper, and other overlooked materials to create something beautiful. Students make 3D works of art with these materials. The Evanston Art Center is about 15 miles north of downtown Chicago. It is dedicated to fostering appreciation and expression of the arts, and is one of the oldest arts centers in Illinois.

Also in Chicago, the Chicago Botanic Garden offers an eight-session class called Rejuvenated Jewelry. In this class, students combine old and new elements to create unique and beautiful jewelry. Students receive a supply list on the first day of class. They should also bring special and sentimental keepsakes to work with such as single earrings, charms, buttons, family photos, and chains. The Chicago Botanic Garden opened 50 years ago. It is located on 385 acres, around nine islands, and with six miles of lake shoreline. It offers a number of different crafting classes.

Houston residents can attend a Bath Bomb Workshop at Love & Make, and learn to make custom bath bombs. This two-hour workshop costs $55, which includes all supplies. Participants make four to eight bath bombs, adding a variety of colors, and essential and natural oils. Love & Make holds craft workshops in its studio in the Rice Village area, which is about five miles out of downtown Houston.

In the Washington, D.C. area, Artistic Artifacts offers a sewing workshop called Garden Stories. For this class, students use a variety of presser feet to create a nature-themed accordion-style book inside a Triptych trifold cover.
