Teaches at Fashion Psychology Institute

While one might assume Fashion Psychology emerged in the 20th century, its roots actually reach back to the 19th century. Harvard lecturer Henry James was the first American psychologist to illuminate the notion of Fashion Psychology in both lectures and writings. Upon graduating from Columbia University in 2012, Dawnn Karen continued where Harvard’s Henry James left off to pioneer the Fashion Psychology Field®. She has been the pioneering mind behind this global field since then, paving the way forward in fashion academia.

Dawnn Karen dubbed by The New York Times as "The Dress Doctor" holds a Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology from Columbia University and is also a candidate for a Masters in Education from Columbia University. She is a former model, fashion public relations representative, and designer. She recently traveled to the Middle East and Asia to extend the research on her theory about Fashion Psychology Field™ and she worked extensively with clients to expand her field. She decided to turn her focus towards lecturing and speaking engagements since she returned to the United States. Her most recent speaking engagements include the Kyiv Security Forum per request of Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatensyuk and Former First Lady Tereza Yatensyuk and United Nation's Empower Women. She has also contributed to major networks as an international TV Personality & Media Expert in more than 35 countries. Her most recent interviews include NBC News, The New York Times, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, Ultimately, she has made history as a pioneer in the field of Fashion Psychology (2012), as one of the youngest Professors and first black woman Psychology Professor, in the Social Sciences Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology (2014) and by founding the online institute Fashion Psychology Institute (2015). Her Fashion Psychology Field® text book tentatively titled “Life As You Wear It” will be published by Little Brown publishing under Hachette Book Group in Spring 2020.
