Extend learning beyond the classroom during the school year with CMA’s After School art classes — now held virtually. Through a weekly, immersive arts class held via Zoom, children develop a portfolio of work that explores a range of materials and art-making techniques. Our professional Teaching Artists help your child refine their art techniques, develop their own artistic voice, and build their critical thinking skills. CMA’s After School program is both a fun and educational way to unwind after the school day.
Can’t get enough of graphic novels? Learn to create your own in this unique interactive class, structured like a club for children wild for comics and illustration. Students will learn about the tradition of sequential art used in classic American comics, manga, and contemporary graphic novels. Artists will learn techniques in cartoon and perspective drawing, character design, cover art, and storyboarding as they work to complete their very own graphic novel. CMA Teaching Artists will also introduce students to the work of well known graphic novelists and illustrators such as Moebius, Iain Mccaig, Terryl Whitlatch, Marjane Satrapi, Jillian Tamaki, Julia Anderson, and many more.
Graphic Novel Club is perfect for those new to the art of the graphic novel, as well as those familiar with the process. Expect to complete an incredible graphic novel, learning the language and tricks of the trade while building confidence with a group of friends.
Art Materials: Prior to class, students will receive a curated list with purchase links, as well as DIY alternatives.
How to connect:
Download and install Zoom on your desktop or mobile device prior to your first session. We recommend logging into the session 5 minutes in advance to ensure that your camera and microphone are working.
