Reviews for DIY Classes in NYC

DIY Classes in NYC are rated 4.7 stars based on 3,165 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Anna was a great instructor - gave very helpful demonstration and remained very attentive to everyone's projects
  • Such an excellent way to be introduced to wheel throwing! Our instructor Siri was excellent— she explained the process well, and was very helpful as we encountered new questions and created new problems. We made multiple pieces each, and while only one firing is included in the class fee, the firing fee for additional pieces is so inexpensive that we ended up deciding to keep everything we made. We may be back to take more classes and learn more advanced skills :D
  • Clear, friendly instruction, lots of attempts to play around on the wheel, in a large workspace where more professional people were working and lots of cool work on the walls for inspiration. Price felt exactly right. Very messy, very fun!
  • Lots of personal attention, care, and encouragement, and everything provided. It really gave a good introduction to the skills and techniques you need to become a jeweler.
  • Baran was such a great teacher. He made sure that we understood the purpose of each tool and taught us the correct technique to use them. The class was super fun and a great learning experience. And my beverage caddy is so cute!! Would recommend this class 100%!
  • The class was wonderful. I am contemplating taking another one to make something more complex. Highly recommended.
  • The instructor, Patrick, did a great job of explaining the basics. Had unlimited clay to use and would take the class again.
  • This was a great experience! My spouse and I were complete beginners, and had so much fun learning the basics. The class was full but only fits maybe 12 or so people, so it wasn't intimidating and there was always help when we needed it from one of the two instructors. The main instructor seemed to be newer than the other one, not as confident but definitely very skilled. 2 hours was the perfect amount of time! Make sure to ask for extra ideas/tips once you've gotten the basics - the only group instruction was for the basics, but some people seemed to get some very cool extra techniques from the instructors walking around and helping.
  • Carolina is a great teacher and excellent at her craft, and also inspiring
  • I had a really wonderful class at Glen's studio a couple of weeks ago. I'm still blown away by the bowl I made! Glen has a well-stocked, clean, and bright workshop that has two lathes, so the class will always be small. You get a lot of personal attention/instruction and he covered a ton of info, from which turning tools to use for each step, how fix gouges, how to apply your finish of choice such that it really, really gets into the piece, etc. He also answered all of my questions, from choosing wood, the differences between turning green vs kiln-dried, how the difference sizes of lathes can be best utilized and more. I've taken one turning class before from someone else, and Glen's class was much more informative and personal. Five stars, across the board.
  • This course was a lot of fun. Our instructor was amazing! We laughed out loud while learning valuable skills for our first time hand-throwing. They first do a demo, then walk you through step by step, and then let you have time to go for it yourself. I took my best friend for a birthday present, and we couldn't have been happier. It's worth every penny!
  • Great time and price
  • Great class. Had fun and learned a lot. Good idea for couples.
  • The instructors were excellent.
  • These classes are individually focused and the space is well set up. She gives you the information to be able to work on your project at home, both directions and an introductory level tool list and sources.
  • Such a great class. The instructor was passionate, friendly and super helpful. You can learn a lot and walk away with two great gifts or to keep :)
  • The Longboard class was just so well thought out. It was a one and done session which started with a great overview of the class. We talked through designs and goals, and then started sketching out our plans. The support was superb - If you were more advanced, the team offered suggestions and guidance, and if you were completely novice, they were extremely attentive. The level of instruction was wonderful and the class was fun and informative. I can't recommend this highly enough. From start to finish, this was money well spent!
  • This class involves one project, a lovely twisted wire ring, although if you're quicker or more skilled (I'm just kind of intermediate), you may have time for an extra piece. It was challenging, but I learned a lot and was pretty proud of what I accomplished. It will be even more exciting when the new jewelery labs at 92nd Street Y open with new equipment!
  • Fun class with great instructor!
  • Lovely class! Great guidance and output
  • The people were welcoming and very knowledgeable. It was fun and I learned so much in just 2 hours.
  • Carolina is a wonderful instructor. I really enjoyed taking her class!
  • My family and I took the pottery class in New York City. It was an amazing experience. The instructors were very thorough and helped us a lot. We were very new to pottery and using the wheel, but they came around and helped us when we were lost. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in learning how to use the pottery wheel and basic techniques.
  • I took the class with three others, so not a large class which made it easier to do the build in a relaxed fashion. Will, the instructor, was great at walking us through the build and providing information about the various tools, and also how additional safety guards had been installed to make it safer for those new at woodworking. We got to watch a bit of Japanese woodworking and share a beer as well!
  • LOVE CAROLINA!! Best class ever.
  • Michelle was great as were the other classmates
  • Carolina is a creative tornado! She is fun, direct, knowledgeable, and surprisingly efficient, given the size of the class -- I'm amazed that we were able to make so many lovely things in such a short time! I'm definitely continuing to study with her.
  • The workshop was great! Cynn the instructor was very helpful!
  • So worth it that we’re going to do it again with friends! My husband and I took a pottery wheel class to celebrate our anniversary, and it was absolutely fantastic! The teacher was lovely and incredibly helpful, guiding us through every step of the process with patience and encouragement. We had so much fun learning the techniques, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. When our pieces were glazed and fired, we were thrilled with the final products— they turned out beautifully. This class was a perfect way to celebrate, and we'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to try something creative and fun!
  • I love Carolina as a teacher. She is so knowledgeable about her craft and her studio is amazing. She also does a great job of catering her teaching to each student and encourages creativity and making the piece you want to make. The only downside to this class is that sometimes she has many students and there are times where students are just waiting in line for their turn to talk to her.
  • I had a great experience in this course. If it were a little closer to where I lived, I would sign up for more classes with this instructor. The class was hands on, easy to understand and very interactive. I cannot wait for my next class.
  • Eleni was a highly skilled and kind teacher who easily walked us through the basics of pottery. Both me and my partner were pretty new to the hobby, so she met us where we are. I would consider the course a great value for the amount I paid, and would recommend it to anyone interested. If it were a recurring class, I would definitely consider taking it again.
  • The class was great. The instructor is a professional. The studio is well equipped
  • This was a great experience for a Valentine's Day gift. Our teacher was very personable and knowledgeable, and helped to make sure each classmate completed their project in time. I would highly recommend it to friends.
  • I had a great experience. Virginia is an excellent teacher with a huge passion for the medium. The other students were friendly and helpful. I'd take this course again!
  • AMAZING TIME AND A NEAT STUDIO!! The ring you make is very unique and was a fun date to spend valentines together :)
  • I had a wonderful experience. Mariana was an easy going, flexible instructor. I can't wait to take another class. Best Claudette Jordan
  • great class and teacher :)
  • Really cool hobby class. Great intro into woodworking basics. We learned how to do a stool and used a miter saw and a router in class, and put together a table using joinery (I think that's the proper term). Instructor was awesome - very personable and even stayed late when we needed more time. Close to the subway, really neat little space and it was a great way to spend a Friday night.
  • Had a great time! The instructor was enthusiastic, funny and helpful. The tables came out looking great, and i feel a world more knowledgeable and confident with the tools and techniques we covered during the class.
  • Very much enjoyed my course! Paul was a great instructor and I learned more about the details of woodworking. Would recommend!
  • It was a great team building exercise that helped me, as their new leader, assess how they managed the task - of drinking & spinning.
  • Learned so much about creating the perfect scent! Would def recommend for a girls day or couples!
  • I loved the class I took. Lou, the instructor, was patient, helpful, and just super fun to be around. The folks in the class were all kind. And I learned lots about the fundamentals of wheel throwing! Would absolutely take another class here in the future.
  • Marla is a gem!! Her hospitality was amazing and she had the best play list. Although it was a mix of couples and best friends, there was a simple ease and flow throughout the class with Marla leading the way. Definitely recommend!!! She also has other classes that sound fun to try.
  • Great teachers, Jess was great
  • Good at explaining things, great class for beginners
  • I learned this beautiful process of making stained glass art. I was vacationing from Maryland for my 10th wedding anniversary and decided to take this course. I am an artist but I had never done stained glass. It was well worth the money and I will be taking courses in my area. Thanks Jess and Mary!
  • Wonderful class! Wish we had more time to make the soap at the end though. Looking forward to making another batch soon!
  • Carolina is the absolute best! I love this class so much and I plan to take more with Carolina in the future. You will not regret taking this course :)
