Reviews for Spanish Classes in NYC

Spanish Classes in NYC are rated 4.5 stars based on 180 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • This class was fantastic! It's all about Allan as his expertise and kind personality takes center stage throughout the class. The way class is structured was so helpful. Students dive into the deep end of the proverbial pool since Allan will speak mostly Spanish and everyone is prompted to read and encouraged to participate. The small and large group activities throughout the class were helpful and it's a nice plus to socialize with new people. The Manhattan Language school is great as well with their customer service and intimate office (school..) layout! Highly recommend if you are committed to learning. If you know you'll miss classes please consider joining another time so other students can sit in instead! So excited to join Spanish Beginner 2 next week!
  • Ximena is an excellent teacher! She made learning Spanish easy and fun. I’ve had trouble learning Spanish in the past, but she was extremely clear and made speaking feel easy.
  • The school was very flexible, amazing teachers, and very simple and affordable to get started with Course Horse. I started out attending in-person class but then I wanted to switch to online classes. They did that for me without any problem. The professors were patient and supportive.
  • Our teacher, Angel Haya, was extremely engaging and interactive. He did an amazing job with following up with our class to provide homework and make the class a fun and educational experience.
  • I love every minute of the learning experience with Clara. Clara esta inteligente e interesante. I learned how to pronunce the words correctly, I learned how to conjugate verbs "estar" and "ser". I learned many new useful Spanish words that I intent to use in my work settings. I like it so much that I am signing up for more lessons.
  • I really enjoyed the class! Clara was great! I am going to be out of town the next 2 weeks but if possible I would like to continue classes. Is there an option to do so?
  • Belen is wonderful, hilarious, and an efficient teacher! You learn how to conjugate verbs in many different forms and the class transcends an academic Spanish education. It is very helpful to have had some prior knowledge of nouns, verbs, and basic conjugations though, and if you do, things will come back quickly.
  • I took the Spanish 1: Beginner course over the summer. I came to the course with some prior knowledge of basic greetings etc, but a complete novice in terms of having a conversation. Eric was our instructor with a group of around 7, the size of which made it possible for everyone to practice and have time for feedback before proceeding onward. We learned history, went through book lessons, and Eric would recommend great music every week for us to immerse ourselves in - and I still listen to many of the artists today. Throughout the course, my vocabulary, pronunciation, conjugation, and conversational skills have dramatically increased; as a dentist, this has allowed me many opportunities to connect with my Spanish-speaking patients, and I am so glad to have taken the course. Looking forward to joining the intermediate course during the winter. Thank you!!!
  • Everything was great and yes I’m looking forward for next class.
  • Loved my session with Juan. He was very friendly, professional and patient. He was clear and guided the conversation naturally. Would definitely want his tutelage again. Thank you Juan!
  • Alex is awesome. Very patient and engaging with the class. I learned a lot and look forward to taking the next level.
  • Took the beginner Spanish class, which has been a lot of fun. Lower stress as our teacher (Eric) has been adaptable to our differences in experience (most of us being complete novices). We spent some time talking about the theory in both English and Spanish, listened to a lot of good music, and got put on the spot with the expectation that we had studied previous exercises. Overall happy with the experience and feel more confident in my abilities - looking forward to progressing further!
  • excellent instruction!
  • Spanish- Total Beginner was the just-right level for me. Adelina was a great tutor. She was supportive and patient, and always provided a mix of speaking, listening, and a variety of learning activities which helped me retain what I learned during class. I am planning on signing up for the next level soon.
  • I enjoyed this class immensely. We had a good group and I was surprised how quickly I was able to recall my high school Spanish. Maria B. is a great teacher! Looking forward to taking the next module.
  • Lalo was a superb instructor. He spoke loudly and clearly, enunciating and pronouncing perfectly so that I could understand him. I would definitely take another class with him as I truly learned a lot and loved practicing speaking Spanish out loud.
  • Absolutely loved this class! I love this store (they have great selection of travel related books, language books, fiction and non fiction) - and the instructor (Eduardo Pavez) is just superb. Can’t wait to take the next class! Just being at this place feels so good.
  • Very fun and learned a lot. After the first few weeks learning the basics, our teacher really focused on reviewing what our class was having trouble understanding to ensure we were getting as much practice as we needed. Would recommend!
  • Trial Spanish Lesson

The Teacher was very enthusiastic and I enjoyed the games etc.
  • Fantastic teacher!
  • Great teacher. Nice group. Fun class. Highly recommend.
  • Monica is a great teacher, really nice and super chill. The class goes by fast and there's a lot of information, but it's a great starter if you're new to the language. It does make you want to continue,as you need to learn more tenses and vocabulary to actually speak in Spanish.
  • Lalo is a great teacher. His humor and energy make the class fun and not intimidating.
  • Awesome instructor!
  • Spanish Past Tenses Review

    Hector was great!
  • Spanish Essentials

I had an excellent teacher, Michael, for Spanish 2. He created a safe, fun environment in which we thrived, became confident, and improved our knowledge and comfort with Spanish! All the staff are friendly and helpful, and greet you by name.
  • Spanish Essentials

I am half way through Spanish level 1 with Victor and all I can say is - Yo amo Fluent City! ...Ok so I can actually say a lot more than that! Victor is a fantastic, inspiring and lively tutor. He makes the task of learning a new language a lot less daunting and very enjoyable. He speaks no less than 12 (!!!) languages himself so he's very knowledgeable and definitely knows what he's talking about....!! Before each class he will email us homework, which we prepare then discuss and expand on in class. Each class is 2 hours long. This is a great format and we cover a lot of material in every session. The classes are very engaging, Victor even emails us film and music clips to help us learn. The songs about verb endings have not left my head since and I often find myself singing them in the shower/gym/subway! I have wasted no time in signing up for Spanish level 2. I must also add that the support team at Fluent City - Lauren especially - are amazing. She is so helpful, efficient and friendly! As the review above states, you would be foolish not to sign up with F.C over their competitors! åÀQuÌ© estÌÁs esperando?
  • Spanish Essentials

Guys I've been taking Spanish classes and I feel like I've made so much progress! Thanks @fluentcity
  • Catalina was a great instructor, very prepared and the exercises were useful and a good mix.
  • Trial Spanish Lesson

Really enjoyed the teacher and the class!
  • Kaki is a tremendous teacher. He is 100% engaged and keeps the class interesting and challenging.
  • This class was fabulous! Really helped me keep my Spanish up and was always a good conversation.
  • I really enjoyed this class. The teacher was genuine and enthusiastic and the location was ideal. I felt that I learned a lot. The only thing I would recommend is implementing a test to gauge the skill level of students before classes start.
  • Eduardo is an amazing teacher, he makes learning a new language fun and not intimidating.
  • I absolutely love this class, the style of teaching and the class size. The location is also incredibly central and convenient for all transport including PATH trains from NJ. Our teacher, Nelson, cannot be faulted and he remembers everything about everyone in the class in order to further Spanish conversation and draw answers out of us. The school provides weekly tips via email, Quizlet revision cards, a blog and many suggestions on how to further our learning. We have learned to say so much in such a short time in this Beginners class that we are definitely not beginners already. I would recommend Berges Institute to everyone. It is also very good value for money and the class cost does not contribute towards running a large organization, just the classrooms and teachers.
  • Drop-In for Lower Beginners

I loved it! Was great to learn in a nice, relaxed setting. Really glad I went.
  • Trial Spanish Lesson

The teacher was very organized , as well as personable. His class would be well worth taking.
  • Elissa's teaching method is definitely not common, but it definitely helped and brought back the Spanish I had knowledge of many years ago. I find myself to be speaking more fluidly and with more confidence!
  • Carlos was an excellent teacher: welcoming, patient, and clear. A+ class.
  • Went for all ten weeks of Spanish classes with Ashley at City Speakeasy, and it was incredible! Ashley is a fantastic teacher, very warm and welcoming. I did a semester of Spanish way back when so it was a great refresher, but I'm sure it'll be a good beginner course too. I liked that there was more emphasis on conversation, and great use of external tools such as songs and videos. 5 stars for sure!
  • Spanish Level One

    You guys are great.
  • A1.1 Spanish

This was a refresher course for me and I am sooooo happy that I took it. I learned a lot and gained more confidence to speak Spanish. My teacher, Fabian Gonzalez was really excellent! He was fun, he had so much patience and had a do a ton of practice. He is a really good teacher.
  • The weekend class is a great way to gain confidence in speaking Spanish AND it is a great way to spend a weekend! The people are great fun and Elissa is both systematic and flexible in her methods. Highly recommended!
  • This is definitely the most fun language class I've ever taken. Elissa is endlessly inventive, so the class is never boring. Before you know it, you're putting all these new words together into simple sentences and starting to speak Spanish! The students are of different ages and backgrounds, but the atmosphere is so relaxed they're all friendly and supportive. Altogether, a delightful, rewarding experience.
  • Very friendly instructor. Easy way to get better at spanish.
  • I was so surprised by how much I learned in just a weekend. The class was lots of fun, very animated and with much laughter. I think the teaching method is great, and the instructor is a passionate and gifted teacher.
  • My wife, Katie, and I spent a delightful weekend with about eight others in this class, and came out speaking Spanish! The course revolves around learning some basic verbs and nouns, and moving around the group starting stories and adding to them as we moved along. Great method and good success. Hope to go back for Intermediate, where we'll add past/future tenses to what we've learned. We recently visited Cuba and this class helped us a lot.
  • I have attended several weekend intensives with my husband and we can’t wait to sign up for the next round of classes. This is definitely the most enjoyable way to study a new language. We have so much fun in class that it doesn’t feel like “learning” and yet at the end of the weekend I can tell that we have acquired a lot of Spanish! Elissa is so good at bringing all her students out of their shells and creating a great classroom environment. where we can all be silly together. I highly recommend the immersion classes!
  • I am one of those people who gets flustered very quickly when learning languages, especially when learning languages in a classroom from a textbook. Usually things stop making sense and the whole process becomes nothing but a hotbed for anxiety and insecurity. I DID NOT have this experience when I went to the Express Fluency Beginner Spanish course. Elissa is basically pure positive energy in human form. Her approach of teaching us through what I think of as kindergarten-style learning takes away the sense of failure and fear. You are constantly listening and engaging in ways that make learning much more intuitive. You are never pressured to speak when you are not comfortable. The important thing is that you UNDERSTAND, something none of my other language classes actually focused on, which probably was why I would fall behind so quickly. These classes are long but you come out feeling confident in the work you've done. I would recommend this Spanish learning course above any other I've taken.
  • The instruction was excellent. The teaching technique is quite remarkable, and I covered a lot of ground in a very short time. I found myself tracking everything that was being said, and the whole idea is that it's kind of like being a baby again -- language is happening all around you, and you have to get on board with it if you want to make yourself understood.

Discover the Best Spanish Classes in NYC

It’s estimated that over 21 million people are currently learning Spanish today. The widespread use of Spanish has contributed to people’s interest in learning it. Spanish was heavily spread to other regions by Spanish conquerors and missionaries from the 15th century onwards. As Spanish spread, it evolved, with new dialects popping up that were influenced by the regions in which they are spoken. The US has a large Hispanic population, which has contributed to the average American’s familiarity with the language.

Spanish is widely taught in schools in the US and at language centers. It’s a Romance language, so it’s rooted in Latin. This makes it easier for speakers of other Romance languages to pick it up over non-Romance languages. Native English speakers also find Spanish familiar to them because both languages are influenced by Latin and French. If you live in the US, you likely hear Spanish words and phrases in your everyday life.

New York City has the fourth largest Hispanic population in the US. If you live in the New York City area, there are plenty of Spanish classes available for you to take. You’ll also be able to immerse yourself in the language more thanks to the flourishing Hispanic community in the city.

Why You Should Learn Spanish in NYC

Learning a new language has several benefits. When you learn a new language, you need to memorize new vocabulary and grammar. This helps you improve your memory as your brain works to store new information. Speaking the new language will also let you practice thinking on your feet. When you’re having a conversation in the language, you’ll have to quickly form sentences that are grammatically correct and use the correct vocabulary.

Learning a second language has been shown to possibly slow the development of dementia in older adults. Older adults learning a new language are forming new connections in their brains and strengthening nervous system links. Although it may be difficult to start learning a new language, adults have wider vocabularies than children and likely have studying experience, which can make the process a little easier on them. Children who are multilingual also benefit from improved cognitive abilities and wider creativity than monolingual children.

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Spanish speakers also make up a significant portion of New York City’s population. Learning Spanish can help you communicate with more people, particularly those who only know Spanish. You’ll be able to experience new things by opening to new forms of communication. For example, knowing Spanish might help you order at a restaurant, visit a Spanish-speaking country, or reach out to a neighbor.

In-Person Spanish Classes & Schools in NYC

In-person Spanish classes are taught at schools and language centers around NYC. These classes will provide you with formal instruction and provide opportunities to practice speaking the language. A fluent instructor will guide you and other participants through Spanish vocabulary, grammar, and more. In-person classes will also allow you to meet others who are looking to learn Spanish.

Before beginning your first session, you’ll speak to an advisor about your goals, learning needs, scheduling preferences, and location preference. They’ll then match you with an instructor who can meet your needs and goals.

Learning Spanish New York is a Spanish language center in Union Square that looks to offer affordable Spanish lessons. These classes focus more on vocabulary and descriptive terms that will elevate your ability to speak Spanish. You can take these classes from any interruption-free environment with a stable internet connection, including from your home or office. However, it can be nerve-wracking to speak a new language in front of a class of strangers. ABC Languages’ private Spanish lessons provide you with the opportunity to practice your Spanish skills in a one-on-one setting.
