Reviews for Bread Making Classes in NYC

Bread Making Classes in NYC are rated 4.7 stars based on 1,338 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Great instruction, fun and entertaining.
  • I really enjoyed the class. The explanation was clear, the chef clearly knew what they were doing and about the what was named for the food. Though I would have used different ingredients because of food preferences but overall it was fun.
  • The course was extremely thorough with great handouts. We went through everything from best tools to best ingredients. A bonus was taking home our own sourdough bread as well as tasting a few varieties.
  • This class was all we hoped it would be and more! Chef Susan was a terrific instructor and guide every step of the way. The kitchen is spacious and well appointed. We were given ample flavor choices for our bagels (we opted for our favorites…everything and cinnamon raisin). We also made 2 flavors of soft pretzels (salted and cinnamon sugar). Towards the end of class, we sat at their dining table to taste our creations. Chef Susan even prepared a special selection of smoked salmon, sliced tomatoes, onions, capers, cream cheese & butter to enhance our savory bagels. Everything was delicious! Bonus, there were plenty to take home with us. I recommend this class to everyone and can’t wait to take another class with Home Cooking New York. Their menu of classes is extensive!
  • We had a great time! The instructor was very knowledgeable. I think the two of us thought it might be a little more of a social experience, but it was certainly very informative and everything tasted great!
  • The class was great! We learned so much and had a great time doing it. Went home with a starter and a baked loaf!
  • It was a great time, and very informative, but I want to really give credit to two things in particular the venue and the instructor. The place was great with a surprise of live music and very cheap bar which me and my girlfriend kept running off to. Also, mainly the instructor Sandro was great and super nice and professional.
  • So much fun!
  • This class was so much fun! The teacher taught very clearly and was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed the items we made and got to take some home. We would definitely love to take another class again!
  • We loved the class. It was very fun and informative. The instructor, Sandro, was the best. He had the best cooking playlist and was so helpful checking up on our progress throughout the class. I would highly recommend taking one of his numerous classes. 10/10!
  • We LOVED this class. Riva and Aiden were incredibly knowledgeable! We learned so much—tips and techniques, history, and fun facts about NYC's favorite breakfast. If you love bagels (doesn't everybody?!?) and want to learn how to bake with the best of 'em, take this class!
  • Really fun and educational couple of hours. Taylor was super approachable and knowledgeable, sharing her love for all things food! The only tears I shed are for the hour long commute from my place in Washington Heights to the kitchen in Williamsburg. But I loved the surprise “dinner party” at the end.
  • Fatima was Grest, gd find of knowledge and delivery ! !
  • I enjoyed the hands-on instruction, bagel trivia, and industry insights. Plus, we got to eat the bagels we made!
  • Sandro and Alessandro were great!
  • Loved the class!!! Wondering how to get in touch with the chef with questions!
  • You team was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. Thank you for a great evening.
  • Lovely time! Worth every penny!
  • This class is a must if you want to make sourdough bread. Arnie is a gem and very helpful. The Brooklyn Kitchen is a beautiful location. I absolutely loved it. My bread is proofing in the fridge now! However, I feel like an extra 30 minutes would’ve been helpful.
  • Organized, time conscious, good for all levels. Enthusiastic teacher, delicious results.
  • Had a great time and an exceptional teacher!
  • Sam was a wonderful host! We loved this class. We learned so much about bagel making and the process. Thank you for offering this!
  • Fantastic teacher. Great experience. Thank you.
  • The instructors and overall class set up was wonderful! It was a really great experience learning about different types of breads and pastries and the science behind the bread making process. The class was helpful for people of all varying backgrounds and levels.
  • Absolutely delightful.
  • Great class, learned a lot
  • Bread Basics

it was a great hands on experience ! i loved it
  • The instructor and his wife were extremely welcoming and gave a great explanation of the process. The ingredients and tools were available so the course can flow smoothly. Highly recommended!
  • It was very informative and interesting. I learned more than I expected. The venue was great and the instructor was very knowledgeable and organized in her presentation. Above all, the bagels and pretzels came out delicious. Will definitely recommend this course to friends and family.
  • My partner and I throughly enjoyed the class!
  • The class was phenomenal. My first time taking a cooking class and everything went perfectly. The instructions were very well informed and the process was at my speed. The food came out delicious and the people were very friendly.
  • Loved this class! Erica is a fantastic and engaging instructor. Learned a lot and can’t wait to try at home.
  • Love love love!!! Great class! Great staff so friendly and patient.
  • Erica was fantastic. Her analogies of the science behind baking bagels and pretzels were funny and memorable. We'd look to take another class with her.
  • Erika is a great teacher!
  • My boyfriend and I had a great time getting to know new people, making new foods! And the pizza that we made was so delicious and plentiful we took some home—ledtovers! And Kanesha was a dream host and teacher! Samantha was awesome too! A great time!!!
  • My husband and I absolutely loved this class. We can’t wait to repeat the process with our kids and hopefully in the future with our grandkids. Erica makes cooking not only look easy but it IS easy with her guidance. Great positive vibes make for a great class. I am looking forward to taking the class again as a private event with all my children.
  • Such a fun class! We made the tastiest bagels and learned a lot about flour, yeast, and baking!! Erica was great!!
  • My Daughter abd U had a great time! We had a really nice couple at our table also! Wish the class was alittle longer!! Dough and pizzas were delicious, instructor very good and really got into the class! Entertaining too!!!
  • Loved it!
  • Amazing class. My love and I loved it and learned some cool things.
  • Erica was wonderful. The pace, content, and overall experience was fantastic. The number of helpful hints and insights made the session very useful not only for bagel and pretzels but for the entire baking process!
  • This class was so fun! Chef Isaiah was a terrific teacher and the pizzas were delicious
  • Pizza Making: Perfect Dough (Virtual)

I loved this class! Scott was fantastic at simply explaining the science behind dough making and ensuring that everyone in the class made the perfect dough.
  • Pizza Making: Stretch, Top, and Bake (Virtual)

Scott is a great teacher and genuinely wants you to make the best pizza possible! I also did this class with my family virtually and definitely recommend it to anyone that is looking for something fun to do with your loved ones.
  • Pizza Making: Perfect Dough (Virtual)

Scott was very good. He even took the time to help Bob and Me with a gluten free pizza. Thanks.
  • Pizza Making: Stretch, Top, and Bake (Virtual)

Amazing class! So fun and Scott is a wealth of information! I've made pizza at home before, but this was the first time it tasted like "real" pizza. Highly recommend this class!
  • Pizza Making: Stretch, Top, and Bake (Virtual)

Great hands on experience and Scott was the best!
  • Pizza Making: Stretch, Top, and Bake (Virtual)

Scott was an awesome teacher! Kept me laughing. Learned so much and had a ton of fun. And my pizza was so tasty! The man knows what he is doing.
  • Pizza Making: Perfect Dough (Virtual)

I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to make fantastic pizza dough from scratch from Scott. Scott’s class was fun and very informative, we even touched on a bit of chemistry about properties of yeast and flour! Scott is super organized and is able to give us plenty of individual attention if needed. I highly recommend Scott’s class to anyone looking to obtain that perfect pizza dough. My only regret was that I couldn’t take his next class on preparing and stretching the dough, I’m sure it was equally impressive. However I look forward to taking that class and other classes from Scott in the future.

A great class from The Brooklyn Kitchen is the Intro to Sourdough class. Your teacher will walk you through the stages of making sourdough bread at home and give you an overview of the steps that contribute to a perfect loaf.

It is the perfect class to take if you want to learn the basics of sourdough in a stress-free environment with others who are learning from scratch. In addition, the course offers substitutions for those who have dairy and wheat allergies since some recipes may contain these allergies.

Another great course from The Brooklyn Kitchen is the Doughs course. In this class, you’ll learn how to make dinner rolls, cream scones, and gougeres, though the exact menu may depend on seasonality, ingredient availability, and the chef’s preference. The average class size is 20 people, which gives plenty of opportunities for making friends and meeting new people.

This class is a great general bread making class if you’re interested in learning how to make several types of dough. The course lasts for two hours and you’ll make the dough, cook, and eat your creations. You’ll also have enough to take several breads home with you.

Atelier Sucré offers a New York Bagels class for students who want to learn how to make the famous New York bagel. During the two and a half hour course, you’ll learn how to make bagel dough and how to bake authentic New York bagels. In addition, students will prepare their own bagel toppings and sandwich fillings. It’s perfect for anyone who’s wanted to know how New York bagels got their acknowledgement.

Virtual Bread Making Classes & Schools

If you live in New York but don’t feel like commuting to an in-person class, consider taking an online bread making class. Online classes provide many of the benefits of an in-person class but you can take the entire course from the comfort of your home. It’s a great option for those with busy schools or if you live too far away from the in-person class’s location.

One of the best online bread making classes is the virtual Bagel Workshop from Home Cooking New York. While you’re taking the class, you’ll learn to knead, roll, boil, and bake authentic NYC style bagels. You’ll be taught by chef-instructor Erica Wides. By the end of the class, you’ll make a dozen hand-rolled bagels or assorted flavors.

You’ll need to have all of the materials and flavors ready before the start of the class so you can fully take part in the virtual classroom. If you have any questions about what you need, feel free to reach out. The class focuses on teaching bagel-making skills so you can recreate New York bagels.

Another class option is the Virtual Bread Baking 101 class from Eve Bergazyn. During the class, you’ll learn how to combine salt, water, yeast, and flour into warm, crusty, and chewy breads. You’ll be guided by your live instructor on how to create several classic breads. To fully participate, you’ll need to bring your own ingredients, including active dry yeast, flour, olive oil, honey, salt, sugar, and more.

You will also need to have several tools ready in the kitchen, including a small whisk, measuring cups, bowls, sheet pans, wire racks, and more. The teacher specifically recommends having a KitchenAid with a hook or hands mixer, but it’s not required. You’ll be able to interact with the teacher, ask questions, and get feedback on your technique.

The Chopping Block on Lincoln Square offers a Virtual Cook Along: Phyllo Workshop. Phyllo dough is a light and flakey dough that you can use to make pastries and desserts. The chef will teach you the nuances for successfully working with this light and flaky pastry to prepare three delicious recipes.

Specifically, you’ll make spanakopita (spinach and feta phyllo triangles), Baklava (layered spiced walnuts and phyllo with honey syrup), and orange and clove-scented phyllo cake. In the class, you’ll leave six specific skills, including:

  • Working with phyllo dough
  • Making spinach and nut fillings
  • Preparing honey syrup
  • Working with spices
  • Whipping eggs

By the end of the class, you’ll be an expert in using and making phyllo dough and you’ll be prepared to make these dishes on your own from the comfort of your home.
