Reviews for Performing Arts Classes in NYC

Performing Arts Classes in NYC are rated 4.6 stars based on 4,506 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Miyabi was great as always. Love how thoughtful she is about what she decides to teach us when it comes to technique, and she has a very fun lighthearted attitude. She’s also great at breaking moves down into multiple steps and different levels which is helpful.
  • It was an amazing class! Our instructor was fun, kind, and funny. It was a very welcoming class and I plan to go back! Thank you!
  • Varierande, lagom tempo och väldigt roligt. Som nybörjare från ett annat land kände jag mig väl omhändertagen ?
  • great teacher.
  • The staff was warm, inviting, and helpful! The space was clean and spacious. The drinks, music, and food were all superb! I will be back for future events!
  • The beginner waacking class was an incredible combination of movement, contextual history, and experimentation. The energy in the room was take and receive. I'm going back for more!
  • I was nervous about doing a Beginner Course that was only an hour, but they taught us so much in that hour! We felt like we knew the Tango basics and had so much doing it. The instructors were so kind and fun.
  • I had an enlightening experience after experiencing John as a teacher and I really felt comfortable to to learn with him there. I would highly recommend the intro class and will return for more improvulution courses.
  • Such inspiring and well tutored classes. They were so good, I went on to sign up for more classes with the school.
  • Barry Shapiro is such a great instructor and tutor. I really enjoyed his classes and hope to do more with him.
  • Everybody Can Sing Workshop

    Great class! Highly recommend
  • The instructor was great about pacing the class based on the skillset of the students and listened to everyone's questions. The class was fun and there was enough room to move and dance.
  • Conor is a great instructor who has helped me along my drumming journey. Smooth booking and scheduling through Coursehorse.
  • This is a great course to learn about the technical and the artistic elements of film lighting. I'm very happy I took the class, and Patrick is a great instructor.
  • loved my first class. the instructors were so warm welcoming and nonjudgmental. the steps were fun and fast paced and the hour seriously flew by. made me appreciate belly dance even more getting to see the choreography behind it! def going again!
  • Great workout and sequences!
  • It was a wonderful class. The teacher paid attention to each individual student and worked with me quite extensively, because I cannot dance. The instruction was simple, and by the end of it I felt like I was a little bit closer to actually having some kind of rhythm. I loved the choreography we learned, and the teacher clearly had a huge reservoir of knowledge about different dance styles, moving from Jazz to African to interpretative to hip hop. She even gave me a list of people to look up after I asked.
  • The instructor was very attentive.
  • Me and my friend had alot of fun! We had never taken any type of belly dancing class and needed a intro level but the teacher was very nice about going slow and making sure we understood, I also loved her sexy and fun energy! Will def be back!!
  • This was my very first dance class as an adult. I really enjoyed my experience. The instructor was very friendly and encouraging. I was stepping a bit out of my comfort zone but felt very comfortable in the studio. I felt like I could make a mistake and not be judged. It was so fun!
  • Barry is easy to work with and a great teacher. I learned so much and finally recorded my VO Reel. I highly recommend it!
  • A warm and friendly vibe was palpable as soon as I entered the class even though I was a first timer both the instructor and other classmates who were regulars said hello with huge smiles. They were thorough in providing full disclosure that this was the fitness warm up and training class, not the true stage fight choreography, but I already expected that because they sent me a reminder email the day before class with the class title "Combat Simulation". The email provided the address description of facilities and what to expect during class. Class was easy for me to follow because of a few months of prior experience with karate and krav maga, because many of the moves involved incorporate martial arts of kickboxing elements such as roundhouse kicks, upper cuts, jab cross. It was organized like a group fitness class with a playlist of music and each song involving a set of moves that was explained and practiced once in advance. The instructor was energetic and upbeat and occasionally walked over to individual participants to correct or improve form or suggest modifications. The class also incorporated a strength element with squats, deadlifts, bear crawls, Russian twists and other moves done in combination sets. There was also a directed stretch at the end. I felt challenged but not intimidated and at the end other participants who were regulars and professional actor said I did really great for my first time. Some of the other attendees in class were regular stage or tv actors and told me they had taken this and the true stage combat class for over a year and used it in their profession. One of them was also the instructor for the stage combat choreography class and invited me if I would be interested to ever attend her class, and took the time to inquire if I had a preferential interest in either stage or screen acting so they could tailor the class to include instruction for either - like sound effects slaps for stage or camera angles for television. I felt very welcomed and encouraged by this as a new student and would think it a good environment if a budding actor wanted to make contacts among fellow attendees. The facilities and space they provide is very suitable with changing rooms showers and a stretching area and mirrors to be able to look at your form.
  • So far, all of my CH class have been great. Thanks!
  • Improvisation class with Dave, Walter, and everyone has been engaging. We did zip-zap-zop, three lines, switch game (switch the object), columns, fixed word count, genre, the world's worst xxx, and more. From not knowing how to start a sentence to calling back the terms we mentioned earlier and adding information to indicate who, what, and where, I stepped into the improvisation world. Every other member in the team were also doing their best. The liveliness of the class is inspiring and the concept of "yes, and" instead of denial can be life-changing. Highly recommend the class; wish to take more.
  • It was a transformative experience for me. In the past 8 weeks, our class went from strangers to close pals. We played “zip zap zop” games, memorized each other's names, acted out skits, learned the 5 W's - what, why, where, when, and who - and performed play excerpts and monologues. I explored a different side of myself - a more verbal, aggressive, louder, more expressive side. The acting tools we learned are not only useful in acting but in real life, such as conversational tools, you know what I mean, casting, the unimportant, urgency, impulse, gun drop, and more. The class made me feel so emotionally secure that I cried while acting Prima Facie. I am thankful for every member's 100% commitment. It was an unforgettable experience.
  • Carl is friendly and professional and a great teacher. I had a great experience!
  • I had a great experience with Improv I. Samantha was an excellent teacher who was able to get everyone to relax and actively participate and be invested in classes. I'd recommend taking the class for those at a beginner level who want to get started in Improv, or even for anyone who's just curious about what Improv is.
  • Chris is a patient teacher. I enjoyed this basic course on DJing. I highly recommended it for beginners
  • Andy is personable and totally engaging. His instruction super clear and his advice, invaluable.
  • Great
  • This class was awesome!! A lot of great information and an amazing workout!
  • It was great – Kyle was a fantastic instructor: he made the instrument approachable, adapted the course to the students' aptitudes, and inspired us to learn and improve in a very friendly manner. I'd highly recommend it!
  • Loved the class! The teacher was excellent and I had a great time. Already planning my second class!
  • Advanced Beginner Bellydance Technique & Choreography

Carol is fantastic! Join for a fun and fabulous shimmy lesson!
  • Really enjoyed this class! Carl was a fantastic teacher. The group was fun and welcoming. Highly recommend.
  • The teacher was encouraging and the class was engaging. I practiced new skills.
  • This class was reality based and expressed how your unique personality is what triggers the imagination when introducing a product. Importantly, the student must know that VO is an unpredictable business!
  • Everybody Can Sing Workshop

I loved the class! I had so much fun just warming up my voice and sing different types of music.
  • Very good and definitely returning to the studio
  • Elisabeth was great and fun to work with.
  • Great class!! Was fun and a great workout.
  • Great class that teaches the basics in tango. Great starter class.
  • Carl is beyond wonderful! This is the best class I've ever taken. He is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive. I was a novice to improv and he made me feel comfortable yet pushed me to the next level. Cannot recommend highly enough!!
  • Amazing experience, thank you Erich!
  • I took some very interesting notes on things i did not know before. Special techniques as well as emotions. Definitely would recommend the course to anyone who wants to learn more about becoming a better actor.
  • It was great!
  • My experience was great. Arielle was a really great teacher for beginners, positive & encouraging
  • I absolute love it, it's fun yet challenging! I love how the movements are broken down, the teacher is super encouraging
  • This class was a great way to start acting and the tools were incredibly insightful in finding genuine ways to remember to PLAY while acting a scene. Loved it!
  • Love the class and the instructors. Having a lot of fun and learning so much. Highly recommend this class

Over time, they can build self-confidence and connect with themselves and others on a profound emotional level.

New York City, a widely recognized global hub for arts and culture, is an incredible place in which to pursue the performing arts. The city boasts a rich cultural heritage and is home to renowned theaters, dance companies, music venues, and performing arts institutions. These include the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Madison Square Garden, and Carnegie Hall. There are plenty of places to both learn a performing art and become inspired. Individuals will never run out of plays to go to, concerts to attend, or stand-up comedy sessions to laugh along with. If students are interested in pursuing a career in performing arts, they’ll also find plenty of networking opportunities in the city.

In-Person Performing Arts Classes & Schools in NYC

There are many in-person performing arts classes in NYC for aspiring actors, comedians, musicians, and more. For example, the Brooklyn Comedy Collective offers a class called Improv Level 1. They’ll learn how to connect with themselves and others emotionally, comedically, and boldly, to become the best possible performers. The Brooklyn Comedy Collective is located in the Williamsburg district of Brooklyn, NY. It focuses on teaching comedy through three distinct pillars. Firstly, to empower each student to find their unique voice in comedy and performance. Virtual Performing Arts Classes & Schools

Learning performing arts virtually has its pros and cons. On the positive side, virtual learning provides convenience and flexibility, allowing students to participate in classes from anywhere without the need for commuting. It also offers access to a wider range of instructors and programs from different locations, offering diverse perspectives and expertise.

However, there are challenges as well. The absence of physical presence and live interactions can make it harder to establish connections and engage fully in the learning process. The lack of immediate feedback and correction may hinder the development of certain performance skills that require direct observation and guidance.

There are many online performing arts classes for interested students. For example, the L.A. On-Camera Training Center aims to provide actors in Los Angeles with authentic and proven on-camera techniques. Led by experienced comedy actress Jacqueline Geary, the 12-week introductory course titled How to be Funny on Camera explores the four fundamental elements of a comedy scene. In this course, students will learn the eighteen tools needed to make any read complete. It is ideal for those looking to book comedic roles, improve their acting in comedic scenes, or extract comedy from dramatic scenes. Experience the genuine L.A. On-Camera Training Center and elevate your on-camera skills.

In addition, Dance of Venus offers learning opportunities for individuals interested in belly dancing, yoga, and ballroom dance. Online performing arts learners may be interested in the Beginner Belly Dance class taught by Dance of Venus. This course focuses on unleashing the "goddess Venus" inside each participant, teaching them to take control of their bodies and movements. Through the art of belly dancing, students will learn how to improve their musicality, posture, grace, and flexibility.
