Reviews for Sports & Games Lessons in NYC

Sports & Games Lessons in NYC are rated 4.4 stars based on 310 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • The teachers and classmates are super friendly. I will definitely go back.
  • We had such fun with Coach Rak, who introduced us to the basics of fencing and encouraged us to really get into it. The class was small and ran long, which we really enjoyed. Highly recommend for a small group activity or if you want to try out fencing.
  • This was my first class and I enjoyed it very much. It was a little intimidating at first glance as clearly the regulars are advanced with proper uniform gear. But the maestros were welcoming and quickly had me working on foot work and movement before placing a sword in my head. I was quickly able to relax and engulfed myself with the teaching and lesson. Towards the end of the class I was able to apply my foot work with a sword in hand. The instructors are the real deal in sword masters and are committed to teaching the art form. You will learn about the sport and its history; and get a good workout in the process. My muscles had a good burn at the end of the 2 hours. As a beginner I feel I can continue to grow under the guidance of these instructors with more sessions.
  • The class was great. Paul is a very competent, knowledgeable teacher who strikes the right balance between verbal instruction and hands-on experience. He taught us the fundamentals of operating the boat without overwhelming us with the jargon. It was fun, and I plan on taking another class next year.
  • Loved it! Had a blast! Tom was great!
  • Swimming skills were a bit rusty so I’m glad I took this class. Looking forward to starting the Intermediate level
  • Great teacher and teaching assistant for a comfortable and safe learning environment. After 8 weeks I now feel confident to swim freestyle, tread water in the deep end and learn other strokes with more practice at city pools. The water is cold to keep it at competition levels and a long sleeve rashguard is advised. Use the bigger, cleaner locker rooms on level B1.
  • It was very hot the day we sailed but our skipper was cool & collected. Super educational and fun!!
  • Amazing class! The maestros were very patient and walked us carefully through the history and reasoning behind the different positions. The group was also very welcoming. You will have a great time and definitely get hooked to continue learning!
  • Amazing instructors !!
  • Loved it!
  • Jay was a great instructor with a wealth of knowledge. We got to talk to Will for a bit as well and he was also very friendly and knowledgeable. We highly recommend this course!
  • Wonderful class and teacher. I plan to take the next class.
  • Instructor made it seems so simple and was able to get it within two sessions. Already recommended friends and two already booked for January classes.
  • Loved it! Knew only the very basics of swimming but was doing Freestyle & Backstroke across the pool length by the last class. The original instructor was out for a few of the 1st classes, she teaches cross training as well but the assistant(?) Mario was awesome. When the instructor came back she focused her attention to the beginners that still needed help with previous lessons & Mario focused on those who progressed a bit faster so everyone in the class could advance at their own pace which was pretty cool. So 5 stars for the class. However be warned as in previous posts that the women locker rooms are pretty gross - puddles of water & wads of hair on the floor - wear flip flops at all times. If you can overlook that then you are in for a really fun class.
  • Hands down one of the best & most unique experiences I've ever had living in New York for the last 30 years. Being on a small sailboat on the Hudson gave me a whole new perspective on how beautiful Manhattan really is. On top of that, I had never sailed before but found it super relaxing while mentally stimulating at the same time. Very meditative. I recommend this class to everyone I know.
  • Will was awesome! Really knows his stuff and made it real easy to follow. Greatteacher
  • Fencing for Adult Beginners

Fantastic class, I've joined. The positions and posturing of the fencing moves are a total body workout!
  • Fencing for Adult Beginners

Diana the instructor was great. She was patient and encouraging. The warm up was a workout, i should be toned in no time.
  • Swimming Instruction - Intermediate

Excellent class!! Learned a lot from Logan.
  • Swimming Instruction for Beginners

    Logan is Awesome!!
  • Thought the class and instructor were great!
  • Instructor was very helpful and we got plenty of practice.
  • Swimming Instruction for Beginners

Logan is a great instructor! Super professional yet caring. Very attentive and will work with you to teach you the skills. Definitely learned a lot of techniques that helped me learn to swim!
  • Golf for Beginners

Great instructor, gives very good instructions on how to hit the ball and hit straight. I got luck with a small class size where it felt like private lessons.
  • Fun class....
  • Great class! Only downside is the pool was always freezing cold!!!
  • Awesome class, top-notch coaching, amazing drills. Will definitely sign up again.
  • The instructors were phenomenal and really got into teaching us the basics of fencing! It's a great class to get to know more about the history of the martial art, as well as to get an introduction!
  • Class was super cool, unusual and fun. The teachers were great and we had lots of personal attention. Highly recommend to people looking for a unique sport to discover!
  • Excellent teacher and fun, informative experience.
  • It was a great time to be out on the water, as evening came around and the atmosphere fell into a calmer state. The sailing instructor knew his stuff and gave each of the five of us a chance to be the captain. I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested in sailing on the Hudson. It's a challenging environment because of the variety of experiences you'd have there sailing small craft. Sailing is magic. It really takes you into a new dimension. And it's such a natural business: you, the water, the wind, and your boat.
  • Swimming Instruction for Beginners

Excellent class for the non-swimmer. Josh the instructor was outstanding. His patience and reassurance helped me to overcome my fears. Definitely would recommend.
  • Community Lightsaber Class (Ages 5-12)

    Love it
  • Instructor was fantastic even though I mixed up the times and arrived late. Really fun and informative, hands-on class. Highly recommended
  • it was great class!
  • Wonderful !! From beginning to end. I think I may have fallen in love with sailing !
  • The class exceeded expectations. Johnathon was an experienced instructor who kept everything in control and allowed all of the students to handle the ship as much as possible. The class was kept small and high engaging. Watching the sunset from Hudson river while listening to helicopters marked a perfect evening. Highly recommend the class to anyone who is even remotely interested in learning about sailing.
  • American Red Cross Adult Swim: Adv Beginner

I'm not afraid of the water but have zero swimming technique. I needed this class to teach me the basics and it did exactly that and more. Everyone here is really great and very friendly.
  • Wonderful experience, instructor (Jay) knew what he was doing, very friendly. I would do it again.
  • Swimming Instruction for Beginners

Awesome learned so much and now have no fear to swim. Great teacher
  • Swimming Instruction for Beginners

this class was great! the instructor went at a good speed. he was very patient with everyone. I would recommend this to anyone!
  • Community Lightsaber Class (Ages 5-12)

Was awesome, teacher was very good at explaining exercise and to the point
  • The instructor, Florin Giuglescu, Is great with fundamental drills, highlighting the reasons why your form needs to be different and really interested in ensuring you understand the core basics of the game.
  • Great class! I was a true beginner to racquetball (only played once before in my life) and definitely improved throughout the class. The first few classes focused on the game rules and fundamentals (how to serve, different hitting techniques, etc). After that we would start every class running through drills and reserving the last half to play against each other. The instructor was great and would audit the games and provide feedback real time on what we could do better. Definitely would recommend this class to anyone that wants to get better at racquetball!
  • I thought this class was very well done. By the time I actually sailed I knew what the terms meant even though at first it seemed like there was too much to comprehend! So enjoyable and fun!
  • I love the atmosphere of the swim school. Kids seem all having fun learning how to swim. My daughter is 5 and 1/2 year old, she took 6 lessons in this beginner course and had 4 different instructors. She seemed learning the best from instructor Anthony whom had given her 3 lessons and has built a trusting relationship. It was amazing to see her applied what she learnt with her moves in the pool like propelling herself like a rocket! I'm planning to register her for the Fall and hope she will continue to learn swimming like a pro somedays!
  • Swimming Instruction for Beginners

I went from not being able to stand properly in 3 feet deep water (my first day of class) to diving in 13 feet deep water and swimming across the pool on the last day of this class. If I can do it, anybody can but only if Joshua Bernstein is the instructor and Logan "the life saver Lifeguard!"
  • What a great class! I signed up with my partner and we were taught the fundamentals of fencing with a lot of attention and support. I hadn't expected to have so much fun and learn so much, but I did. I'd recommend this class highly. Although it's not required, I'd also suggest wearing dark comfortable shoes and comfortable grey pants or sweatpants that you can move easily in.
  • Very small class (two of us, actually) meant very hands-on instruction. I felt like a sailor by the end of the 2 hours!
