Beginning Guitar
My experience at Jalopy School of Music was a positive one. The class size was small(3 students) and that felt perfect for a beginner group. We had a great instructor, Kyle M. I still have a long way to go on my guitar journey and I felt like this was a good 1st step for me. -
Flamenco / Spanish Guitar (1 Hour Private Lessons)
Diego is knowledgeable, patient and a great teacher! -
Guitar Lessons: Acoustic / Electric (Private)
I loved the lessons. The instructor had me explore songs and artists that I never heard of before, even though they were quite famous, I just haven't been exposed to it. It was so helpful to play actual songs, such as Everly Brothers' "Dream" and how he broke down the first part of "Over the Hills and Far Away" from Led Zeppelin. -
Guitar Ensemble
Greg did an amazing job leading our class. I am so appreciative of the encouragement and expertise he provides. Can’t wait until the next one. -

Beginners 1: Guitar for Absolute Beginners
I really enjoyed the class and always wanted to learn how to play, but found it difficult to start on my own. I am truly an absolute beginner, and it was nice to take a class with peers that were at the same level. If you’ve always dreamed of playing guitar, I would recommend this class to turn the dream into reality. With a little commitment, it’s not as hard as you would think. Have fun! -
Ukelele Lesson
I had such a great time at this class!! The teacher was so patient and explained everything so well. I came away with a few basic chords after just a 60 minute lesson! Can’t wait to go back -

Ukulele for the Confident Beginner
The course was small and intimate and the teacher was very patient. Jalopy is a wonderful neighborhood music school that is truly unique. I'd love to explore music of a different genre, but I think that comes later :) -

Beginners 1: Guitar for Absolute Beginners
Vincent aka Vinnie’s class is the best! It’s the perfect class if you’ve wanted to play guitar but didn’t know where to start and want some accountability. It’s a very inviting space - you’ll want to make sure to rent or have a guitar at home to practice. It makes a world of difference when you really do practice 10-15 minutes even just a couple times a week. -
Beginners 1: Guitar for Absolute Beginners
Wish I’d done it sooner! -
Beg-to-Int Classical, Spanish & Flamenco Guitar

Beginners 1: Guitar for Absolute Beginners
Excellent class...!! I can finally play a guitar, after years of trying by myself here and there, which got me nowhere, but with this class I feel the confidence that I can play. Issac was an excellent teacher and the pace was totally manageable for working professionals. I highly recommend this class. -
Ukelele Lesson
Jessica was super friendly and super knowledgeable about the ukulele. Had a lot of fun and learned a lot from this lesson! -
Adult Beginner Guitar
Craig is fun and informative, low-key and low pressure class. You get what you put in. If you go with informed questions and actually practice, you'll be surprised with how quickly you develop over the 8 short weeks. -
Guitar II: Near Beginners
I learned a lot of new techniques in this class that helped built upon the foundation of skills learned in the absolute beginners class. The class went at a good pace and Austin, our instructor, was very knowledgeable and patient. He took the time to make sure we learned the concepts. The class takes time and effort, but it’s worth it! There’s still much to learn, so I’ll go on to the next level! -
Spring Jazz Intensives
Simply the best! It was one of the best experiences I had in New York in 2016, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn with great teachers and i have met so many talented musicians and singers. I totally recommend for all the jazz singers and musicians with or without experience to apply to the intensives. A special thank to Javier and all my amazing teachers, Aubrey, Tammy and Carolyn, and the talented David. Greetings from Brazil ! -
Spring Jazz Intensives
New York Jazz Academy is amazing, as a student in one of the workshops I am very exited to share that in a very short period of time I have learned so much and that I finally started expresing my self in a more musical way. What ever your musical goals are, there will be a program designed to help reach those goals. I have had the oportunity to study with several teachers and wow, these guys are amazing, as musicians and educators. It is such a Joy to be a part of these programs. For those interested in learning jazz, I highly recomend NYJA. -
Spring Jazz Intensives
My experience with NYJA has been absolutely amazing. David Engelhard is a phenomenal teacher, and an even better person. Javier Arau, the founder of NYJA has gone above and beyond to ensure that I found a NYJA program which was the correct fit for my musical goals. NYJA has an atmosphere of professionalism, equality, humility, and passion- staying true to the roots of jazz music indeed. I haven't experienced a 2 hour group/session that was more educational and inspirational in years. I'm humbled and thrilled to be a part of NYJA. -

Bass I: Bass Guitar for Absolute Beginners
This class is ideal for those who have little to no experience playing the bass or any instrument. Tia is very patient and the course is crafted around suggestions of the students based on interest and skill level. I highly recommend her as a teacher. She breaks everything down in a way that is understandable and fun to continue on and practice at home with. I will probably take another class with Tia in the future. -
Beginners 1: Guitar for Absolute Beginners
Tia is a great teacher...very informative, supportive, patient, and helpful. -
Beginners 1: Guitar for Absolute Beginners
I learned so much in the last ten weeks, and it is broken down in a way that makes it easy to learn. I tried teaching myself originally, but that didn't work very well, so I decided to take these classes. From the first class, you play actual songs and gain confidence in your playing. I would highly recommend this class to any beginner or anyone who is thinking of beginning guitar lessons. -
Beginners 1: Guitar for Absolute Beginners
Would only be better if the building had air conditioning!!! :) -
Bass I: Bass Guitar for Absolute Beginners
Great course, though I wish it were more than one hour a week!
