What you'll learn in this pottery wheel class:

Learning to throw on the wheel can be a challenge, but the payoff of practice is the ultimate reward: handmade pottery you will love to use. Students will be introduced to the important basics of wedging, centering, throwing a basic form, trimming, and glazing bowls, cups, and containers. Basic handbuilding techniques also covered.

Refund Policy
The school operates on a credit only policy and does not issue any refunds unless otherwise advised and approved by a program director, or only in the event that the school must cancel the program. The credit can be redeemed for any program (and most services) at the school, can be used by any family member on your account, and carries no expiration date.

For a cooking class, a student needs to cancel 72 hrs before the class starts in order to receive a full credit.

For Studio Arts Classes, a student needs to cancel 48 hrs before the class starts in order to receive a full credit.

For programs that meet fewer than 3 times: during the costs and booking commitments associated with one or two-shoot programs, the school regrets that they cannot offer any school's credit for programs, classes, or events that meet fewer than three times per programming season. Additionally, the school cannot be responsible for providing make-ups or issuing any credit for programs missed as a result of personal scheduling conflicts, illness, emergencies, or other circumstances beyond their control.

For programs that meet 3+ times: students may receive school's credit for withdrawal from a program when their cancellation request conforms to the timetable outlined below. There is a $15 processing fee for all transfers and cancellations. 50% school credit will be granted for withdrawal from a school program when a written request is received before the second class. After the second class, JCC credit cannot be granted. (however, students may transfer from one class to another of equal or lesser value if there is space availability and with the program director's approval.) All cancellation request must be submitted to CourseHorse at [email protected] Please allow three to four weeks for processing of your cancellation request and be mindful of the timetable described above.

If there are other sections to make up classes in, it should be okay, as long as it's not the first class.

Are you able to come in to use the wheel outside of the class hours or only during?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Samantha! Yes, you can use the studio outside of the class hours. You get a free three-hour card and schedule at first class.
Question from anonymous
Hello! Are students able to fire and keep their pieces? If so, how much per square inch to fire?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Yes, students' pieces are fired. The school charge 4 cents per cubic inch.
Question from Liana
Are class supplies provided?
Answer from Jenn C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Liana! The student needs to buy basic tools such as a beginner's ceramic kit. The school provides the clay and glaze, but students will need to pay firing fees at the end which are 4cents per cubic inch of anything they make and fire.
Answer from Ashley L. Verified Student
There are student tools available but they recommend you buy a set of your own, which you can find on amazon for like $5.

Question from tere m.
Does the class fee include materials?
Answer from Chermalyn P. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi, Tere! Yes, the clay and glazes are provided but students are expected to bring their own tools such as potter's rib, steel scraper, wood modeling tool, needle tool, ribbon tool, loop tool, sponge, and wire clay cutter.
Answer from Alyssa S. Verified Student
It’s recommended that you get the pottery wheel starter kit (I got mine at Michael’s for about $15) which you should, as well as a smock if you want to keep your clothes clean (also at any crafts store). There are some materials in the classroom if needed though.
