Class Description

Description

Step into a light-filled Manhattan pottery studio and experience the meditative craft of wheel throwing in this hands-on NYC workshop. With all materials provided and expert instruction throughout, you will have everything needed for an engaging and memorable creative session.

Meet Your Pottery Wheel:

Get introduced to the pottery wheel and watch your expert instructor demonstrate how it spins and how to shape clay into something special. You will learn the fundamental techniques that form the foundation of wheel throwing.

Get Your Hands Muddy:

Place your clay on the wheel and feel it take shape beneath your fingers. You will learn proper centering technique, pulling methods, and how to form your own bowl, cup, or vase. Your instructor will guide you through each step, ensuring proper technique and safety.

Shape Your Ceramic Creation:

With ongoing support from your teacher, refine your technique and experiment with different forms. Whether perfecting a cylinder or exploring bolder curves, you remain in complete control of your artistic vision.

Prepare Your Piece for the Kiln:

Once your shape reaches your desired form, you will finish it properly and select your favorite piece to be kiln-fired by the studio. Your completed ceramic will be glazed and fired to ensure it is both durable and food-safe.

Collect Your Clay Creation:

Your finished ceramic piece will be ready for pickup one week after your class, serving as a meaningful handmade keepsake from your time on the wheel. Works must be picked up within fourteen days of firing.

If you are curious about pottery and want to learn the basics of wheel throwing, this NYC class is perfect for you. It offers complete beginners an ideal introduction to this ancient craft. Through a brief demonstration of how to form a cup or bowl, followed by personalized guidance as you practice, you will develop foundational skills. Try multiple times until you create a piece you truly love. The final fifteen minutes of class are dedicated to cleanup. This class includes one fired and glazed piece per person.

Whether you seek a unique date night experience, team building activity, or simply something fun to try this weekend, wheel throwing offers creative fulfillment. Sink your hands into clay and create a glazed pottery piece you will treasure for years to come.

Note:

We are excited to share the joy of clay with you! Please note that when you book a class with us, you are paying for the instructional experience, studio time, materials, and the guidance of our instructors, rather than a guaranteed finished product.

Ceramics is an unpredictable art form that goes through many stages—from shaping and drying to complex bisque and glaze firings. While we do our very best to guide your pieces safely through the kiln, ceramics can occasionally crack, warp, or break during the firing process due to natural physical properties.

Complimentary Firing: As a complimentary part of the class experience, we include the firing and glazing for one piece per person (selected by you at the end of the session).

No Guarantees: Because of the inherent risks involved in firing pottery, finished pieces are not guaranteed, and studio fees are non-refundable in the rare event that a piece is damaged during the firing process.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to getting our hands dirty with the creative process together!

Refund Policy

  • No refunds but can reschedule if student notifies us more than 24 hours before class.

Refund Processing Fees:

  • The following only applies in the event a provider’s cancellation/refund policy allows for cancellations and a full refund, please see above or contact CourseHorse to determine eligibility.
