Working directly from the life model and using a step by step classical approach students will learn how to sculpt a realistic portrait in water-based clay. Starting from using a suitable armature structure, then blocking in the basic form, to finally modeling more detailed features.
This course is suitable for all levels and will accommodate beginners as well as experienced sculptors. Emphasis will be put on proportions, building the form, developing anatomical awareness, mood and sculptural aesthetic. All the basic tools and techniques of sculpting in clay will be covered. Each step will be demonstrated and guided by master sculptor Gabriele Vicari and supported sculptor David Hunwick. The small class structure will offer to enable more one on one attention to students
After the sculpture is complete, there is the opportunity to have the sculpture moulded and cast. Or alternatively, the sculptures can be either recycled or taken home by the students and hollowed out for firing (no hollowing will be done in the class)
Armature and clay are provided within the materials budget.
Please bring own clay sculpting tools
