#1: Manhattan Edit Workshop—Adobe Premiere Pro 101

The Adobe Premiere Pro 101 course by Manhattan Edit Workshop begins with a tour of the interface and workspace in the program, with an introduction to how it can be useful for nonlinear editing. Students learn how to start off the process of editing by setting up a project and sequence, importing assets and images, and working with the program’s Media Cache function. They discover the Project panel and how they can use bins to organize the elements of their project.

The course introduces students to essential editing commands and the Program Monitor Controls. They learn editing basics like controlling resolution, finding gaps in their project timeline, moving clips around in the sequence, and extracting segments from their footage to be deleted. They also discover how to use markers, sync lock, and track lock. Students explore video and audio transitions, and they learn how to fine-tune them using Premiere Pro’s A/B mode. Next, they explore advanced editing techniques like four-point editing, nesting sequences, and trimming. The course covers motion effects and keyframing, then moves on to multi-camera editing.

Students work with the Audio Mixer to adjust elements such as volume, gain, and levels in a sequence. Next, they explore effects. They discover color correction, color effects, and grading. They learn techniques for compositing, including how to work with opacity, transparency, green screen footage, and mattes. The course introduces them to titles, typography, and text styling. It also covers file management of projects once they are finished and ready to export, including how to work with Adobe Media Encoder for this purpose.

Key Information

This three-day course is full-time at eight hours a day. There are no prerequisites except that students must be 16 or older. The cost of tuition is $1,295, due upfront.

#2: Noble Desktop—Adobe Photoshop Bootcamp

The Adobe Photoshop Bootcamp from Noble Desktop provides students with hands-on training to grow their Photoshop skills. Students begin by learning basic techniques of photo manipulation, such as cropping, retouching, and replacing an image’s background. They also build graphics by combining illustrations, photos, and text. They also explore the program’s blend mode and learn to adjust a color or image’s opacity. The course then zooms in on color, with students learning about color balance, color correction, and how to use the blending mode for color-specific purposes. Once students have learned to make these modifications to images in Photoshop, they discover how to export the files they’ve made for photo printing or digital use.

Next, the course moves on to more tools of editing, including photo sharpening, lens correction, and conversation to black and white. Students learn how to use pre-made mockups to place their designs. They explore smart filters and the filter capacity of RAW files. Next, they discover clipping masks—the filling of shapes with images—and how adjustment layers can be a great tool for creating them. They also learn how to use the Image Processor function and perform actions as a batch. The course wraps up with graphic design skills such as compositing images into a photo, adding text, using layer styles, and creating digital art.

NYC Industries That Use Adobe

There is growing demand for skilled Adobe users by tech companies in NYC, and in many other industries as well. In New York City, the top industries include financial services, health care, and educational services, all of which include possible roles for those with design skills. Banks and investment companies are increasingly developing their own apps for customers, and these apps need UX Designers and Graphic Designers to maximize their effectiveness. The same is true of many healthcare institutions. Educational services, too, are turning to the growing field of “ed-tech” for apps and sites that can support educators and students. Knowing Adobe programs can help you start a career in one of NYC’s major industries by making you a strong candidate for these types of roles.

Adobe Jobs & Salaries in NYC

Some of the jobs that use Adobe products most frequently include Graphic Designer, Photographer, Film Editor, and UX Designer. The average yearly salaries for these roles in New York City are $64,000, $65,000, $70,000, and $109,000 respectively. These are higher than the nationwide average because the cost-of-living in New York City is higher as well. Some workers have been able to leverage this situation to their advantage by doing their training at New York City institutions and getting their first jobs there, then ultimately transitioning to a remote job that allows them to live somewhere more affordable.
