What you'll learn in this kids camp class:

We offer an alternative to highly organized environments by removing many of the barriers to self-directed play.

Kids spend their whole school year being told what to do all day. Let their summer be a true reset, a time to rest, play and create, free from adult-imposed agendas.

Each week at Lively Village camp includes massive amounts of park time with planned art- and nature -based projects sprinkled throughout, but kids are always free to opt-out of these and work on their own creations. They can also choose to relax with smaller activities like reading, knitting, drawing, dramatic play, cards, crafting, board games, or just kicking back and daydreaming.

In our camp we value self-direction, creative expression, free play, and community building.

Daily schedule:

8:30 - 9:30a: Early Drop-off

Morning:

  • Morning meeting with daily intention-setting
  • Park time (weather permitting)

Lunch:

  • Indoors or picnic style in the park

After lunch:

  • Back inside with an optional activity such as weaving, sketching, leaf-pressing. The kids may each also choose to do something independently such as art, reading, tinkering, resting, playing. This period is usually accompanied by a read-aloud.

End of the day:

  • Closing circle to go over our day, create some closure with regard to our original intentions and sharing some gratitude about the things we experienced. Pick up is from 2:30 - 3p.

Extended Day 3p - 6p will involve further project work.
