The Essentials of Human Resources Certificate Program is an introductory course offered in conjuntion with the Society of Human Resources Management designed to give you a strong foundation in the core competencies and knowledge groups essential to the HR profession. This course is perfect for those at the beginning of their HR career, those HR professionals looking to reinforce their knowledge base, and for non-HR practitioners who wish to better understand the function of Human Resources and how it intersects with their own roles and responsibilities.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.

The Essentials of HR Management course is an introduction to the full scope of the HR profession using materials developed in conjunction with SHRM. They like to think of it as the first step toward eventual SHRM certification. HR labor laws will certainly factor into what is discussed in class, but if you are looking for a course that focuses exclusively on the legal aspects of HR, they do offer an Essentials of HR Law course.

Hi Francesca! The Essentials of HR class is, in fact, an instructor-led, interactive class, which usually includes vibrant class discussion. While the course is listed as a seminar and is lecture-oriented, class participation and discussion play a large role.

The class was good and covered a lot of material. I think it would have been more engaging if the class members introduced themselves to the group and gave a little bit of context as to why they were there and what they wanted to learn. This would have given the instructor insight into what areas to focus on, instead of breezing through all of the topics at a fast pace. When people did have questions, Greg was great at answering them!
